Hello,
I have created this thread, as I found there was very little information on sailing with cats, when I was about to take Blue on his first Mazury Lakes voyage. We had no choice but to take him, having no-one who would look after him during our absence. We found out it was a much better experience than we expected, so take heart, boaters – you do not need to part with your pet to enjoy a sailing holiday!

Those are some great pics. We have taken Timmy on our pontoon boat but he usually ends up throwing up so he doesn't get to go anymore.

@Monika Hartman Blue is the captain of the boat I see. He looks so proud! What an adventurous boy he is. I love it when a sphynx travels along. I think this is the first sailing sphynx I saw. Does he have an instagram account? He should have!

Sorry to hear that, that's a real problem... Blue only threw up once when the wind was very strong and it got really rough. Otherwise, he seemed pretty happy strolling around the boat, unperturbed even when it tilted significantly. But this is perhaps because a sailboat is a bit more stable than a pontoon? Besides, we sail on lakes, not the sea, so there is no permanent rolling, it only starts when the wind blows in rapid gusts. If not for this, the cat would be neither the only nor the first one to throw up, I suspect...

Adorable pics! I grew up with boating and pets
It's incredible :)

I highly suggest a Life Vest when taking your babies boating
(I know personally having fell off my dads boat between the transom and bulk head. Luckily docked no engines on .
Years later , a co-worker drowned falling off the boat in a freak accident .)

Look forward to more sailing boating pics! Great thread!
Head smooches sent !

Thank you :) ! We did buy a life jacket for Blue, but it was used only once: it turned out he had a perfect sense of how to keep safe. Each time someone said "I think it is too rough for the cat to wander the deck", he disappeared into the cabin, as if he understood. Or perhaps his assessment was similar. Despite his taking well to living on a boat, he loathes being in water and does anything he can to avoid it. Nevertheless, we performed two trials, just to see if he would swim in case of emergency and he proved to be an excellent and fast swimmer...

that is absolutely fantastic. Thank you for sharing. Do you have any more pictures of your sailing adventures with Blue?he seems very very clever. And it's great that you are able to perform a couple trial runs before actually getting out there.

We have a couple furred adventure cats here in BC called Bolt & Keel (Bolt and Keel (@boltandkeel) • Instagram photos and videos). You should definitely have an InstaGram account for Blue. By the way, he is absolutely stunning.

Thank you so much for sharing.
