Samael says thank you to all his Lair friends for all the well-wishes! He feels a little better today, his spirits are up and his tail is dragging a little less

But the bruise has really turned purple! The swelling has gone down a little but I think it will turn all sorts of colours before it's back to normal...
This is what it looks like:

It's a big booboo

OUCHIE!!! That's a big bruise! Hope everything heals fine with no clots.

Oh Liz I am so sorry you had to go through that. How scary! I am so glad Samuel is doing better. Thank God it wasn't nerve damage or broken. Bella sends her love! Merry Christmas and hope to have an update from you soon.

Thank goodness it's not broken. I feel so bad that he was whimpering in pain though. It must still have hurt the poor little guy pretty bad. We hope you feel better real soon Samael.

The bruise has vanished for the most part but it's still swollen and it's really bothering him. He keeps licking and biting the tip of his tail which has turned a little raw in the process so now that hurts too. I wish the pain meds would work a little better...

I feel so bad for him & wish I could take away the pain

Poor little guy. Would a cone not help?

We were thinking the same thing but all the shops were closed due to Christmas... Heading out to get one soon! We were also thinking of putting a bandage on but he would just chew it off so maybe with the cone that may be possible.
Thanks for thinking of Samael

Wow those pics really made me cringe..
glad it is doing better...
When I showed persians we would make temp cones out of coffee filters. Take a thick layer of filters and cut a head hole. It would keep them from being able to tun head all the way to get at tail...just a thought.

Poor Samael! Did you call his vet to report the continued pain and how he's worrying at it to the point of creating a raw spot? They may be able to give you some gentle pain meds that could help take the edge off the pain at least. Cleo sends more kisses to her cuuuute boy in the Netherlands.:Kiss:Get better quick Samael!!

The vet called us yesterday to check in but he is already on pain meds so we can't add any more. They said it just takes time. He just keeps licking because were he is licking bothers him now

We did get a cone but it was too big so my boyfriend is exchanging it today. The vet said to just leave the raw bit alone, that way it would heal quickest...

I just want him to feel better!

Ok, another update... We got a "fitting" cone but it was still too big. It fit around his neck but the cone is so big he would not be able to eat or drink and when he tried to use the box he scooped litter with it...
So, we took it off and have to think of another solution, maybe bandage it.
If anyone has any tips, they're very welcome!!

Ok, so the cone is out completely... We put it on again but he keeps walking backwards to try to get out of it and hurts his tail in the process. He is just too clumsy with it on. It's too stiff to bend back and if we cut it, it will not close properly.

We also tried putting a bandage on, but I'm no vet and I just kept hurting him by handling his tail.
I guess we'll just have to keep a vigilant watch so he stays away from it.

Hate that I'm working all weekend!

Ouch...I can so picture him backing up and the opposite of what you are trying to prevent is happening right in front of your eyes :( As much as he might hate it, perhaps while you are working you can keep him in a smaller area/room to minimize his activity and re injuring. Then you might stress less too.

My boyfriend will be home to keep him company & keep an eye on him luckily. I just hate to be away from him when he's hurting. At least I'll be distracted I guess...
Thanks for the suggestion hun, much appreciated!

We had to make a cone for one of our kittys years ago out of a cereal box.

Crafy boy. I hope he heals soon. I am sure the he is miserable. So glad it wasn't a worse diagnosis. Sending healing thoughts for a speedy recovery.
