Hi all,
I'm going to try and post a short video to show you what happened. But my girl just had a weird spell. She was in the cat litter box (closed) and I noticed her falling against the side of it. I opened it up and she fell out, her back legs not functioning with her eyes closed. She pulled herself along to a mat (with her front legs only and wobbling from side to side) and started very subtly shaking. It lasted a minute or two and then she just got up and started purring and rubbing up against me as if nothing had happened.

Obviously I'm taking her straight to a vet but the closest 24 hour vet from me is 1hr 45 mins away. So posting to see if anyone can shed some light in the meantime!

Also, two things have changed in my house this weekend one being new cat litter. We've changed from the Cats Best wood pellets to a cat sand that I'm not sure how to describe but will post a picture. Second is a bag of potpourri that I've hung in the living room.

@Catzzzmeow It began whilst she was going to the toilet, I've just checked and she did pass feces. But it must have begun during or just after.

I'm sure I've read something similar happening to another kitty on here before but I can't find the thread now.

My first guess is it is neurological, perhaps epilepsy. CH-Cerebellar Hypoplasia I know you didn't see when it first started @OurSphynxFamily. Please let us know what vet says. But my vet said a cat can have a seizure and then never again. She did not get into onions or plants or something like that?

I know some have had heart issues and loss of leg control, but the shaking of the head and stiffness of the tail is why my guess is more neurological than not. Stay positive.

Thanks @Catzzzmeow I'll have a read.
I've got another cat with epilepsy who's had it for 9 years now and it was a different type of seizure, Molly just seemed really drunk.
No onions or plants in the house. The new litter we tried today is really strong smelling and I'm wondering if it's some kind of reaction to that. :S

Could be. I would switch back just for peace of mind. As far as epilepsy, the seizures can vary in one to another that has it depending on what area in brain is affected. Let's hope it was just the litter. Will be looking for update after vet.

I just started reading that post @Catzzzmeow and she did the paw over the head thing too. Sounds really similar.
My other cat has really aggressive seizures so I didn't see a connection but there could be. I'll update with what the vet says. :)

@OurSphynxFamily , positive vibes and head smooches for you baby girl ((hugs))
It is so scary when these thijgs happen .. You have your lair fm silt here with lair love and positive vibes

My girl had episodes of f.a.t.e (blood clot in lower extremity)
(I don't have a video , I was terrified and totally forgot to film it - I wish I did so I could share as an educational tribute)

she would start with some rear leg shaking , then within minutes had rear leg paralysis , loss of Bowels, gutteral voclaization sometimes and a main tell tale sign was extremely cold to the touch rear legs . then she would get up and
Act like nothing happened ( she was treated at vet )

I can say it did not appear like your girls video I would definitely show your vet
amd change the litter just In case it is some type of trigger

Here for you!

Please keep us updated often

@Yodamom thank you! It is so worrying! I panicked and then grabbed my phone because I have a language barrier here when it comes to things like this.

I just hope it's a one off, or they can find out what caused it. I hate not knowing what it is and whether it'll happen again.
I will keep you updated as I know more :)

The vet gave her a full bill of health last night. He said it could be any of the things I've mentioned and that she wasn't showing any signs of pain or discomfort.
He ruled out a clot and said what your vet said @Catzzzmeow that it may never happen again.
So our next step is to go to our regular vet on Monday to have some tests run and in the meantime just keep a close eye on her.
He doesn't think it's related to the change in litter but I'm going to put her back into the previous stuff anyway, just for peace of mind.
And she's back to her usual self massaging her favorite piggy pillow this morning!

Hi all! Sorry, I tried to update this the other day and the post wouldn't upload so I'm here again.
So all tests came back fine from our local vet, he can't find anything wrong at all. He says she seems happy and healthy and he doesn't think it's anything to worry about.
She hasn't had a repeated episode since. He said he can't pin point what caused it but he said that it looks like it's neurological by the video. He doesn't think it'll happen again and if it does then we'll reassess the situation. Ive just got to keep my eye on her and make sure nothing unusual is happening! :D
