Didn't say anything, but was sick with worry, as I took Candy Cane in for her spay on Monday night and picked her up last night. She came through it like a trooper and the rest of my babies gathered round her and supported and loved and comforted her all through the night and all day today. I just love how they close ranks when someone is not up to par.

This is Moody, Lulu and even little Squealy comforting her....

It makes me cry just thinking about how far she has come--not that awfully long ago she weighed 12 ounces...nothing but skin and bones and my vet told me he didn't give me much hope for her survival. But when I went to pick her up, he said she had done so well that he could hardly believe it was the same cat. She has an incredible will to live and is such a loving little girl except when it is medicine time--then she is a she-devil...LOL. But she has really started to become quite affectionate--she gives me kisses on the lips (she just touches her lips to mine (that's how we kiss at our house), she is beginning to like to cuddle a little longer and she is trusting that I am not always going to be doing something horrible to her or something that hurts. I love her beyond measure. She gives me so much more than I have ever given her.....she fills my heart with so much love and pride for how hard she has fought, how far she has come, and how deeply my other cats seem to sense when she needs some lifting up of her spirit. They are remarkable animals, these cats of ours.
Thanks to all of you who have prayed for her and worried about her and sent positive energy our way for her. I'm sure if she could, she would press her lips against every single one of yours to tell you how much she loves you. That felt to me like it was the last scary hurdle we had to jump over--I had to make sure she wouldn't accidently get pregnant and I was so worried about the effect the surgery might have on her. I knew you would all celebrate her victory over this last miserable hurdle--at least the last one that I can see coming anyway.
With so much love and gratitude for your love for us,
Candy Cane, Susi, and the rest of the gang

awwwww Susi..... what a beautiful post and thank you sooo much for sharing your feelings with us! I actually have a lump in my throat. I've been very concerned too about her spay surgery. Thank God she is a fighter and that she had a human mom who loved her so deeply that did everything in her power to help her fight for her life when she was so sick!. She's rewarding you with tons of love because of that...:Adore::Kiss::Sweet-angel:

Positive surgery and recovery always good news!

Love the picture - large, medium, small, and baby.

I noticed Candy Cane had what looked to me like a hernia at the incision site from her spay and decided to stop at the vet on my way home from my committee meeting to ask if it was something I should be worried about. His wife told me to go get Candy and bring her right back....my stomach instantly tightened up.....and I drove the half hour home to get her and then turned around and drove her back to the vet. She had told the vet I was coming and that Candy might have a hernia...he met me with "Oh, this is just what we don't need!" and we brought her back to the exam room. He palpated her abdomen and said, "Whew! No hernia--her musculature is just swollen from the stitches and this will go down. If there were a hernia, I would be able to stick my finger into the hole--this is solid--just swollen. I am so relieved, Susi." I breathed a huge sigh and brought my little darling back home....extremely relieved that there wasn't yet another hurdle for this sweet little girl to jump over by needing another surgery.
Well, she has gotten about a million kisses tonight and spent about an hour snuggling on my lap before somebody got up here and pushed her off. So all is right with our world again.

Oh Susi,

So thankful that Candy Cane came through so well. Glad I came to post so I could say so. You were so supportive when Paka was fixed. Paka actually went into heat because she was too small to be fixed until she reached 6 lbs. So it was almost a year before she was done and I was terrified. Happy your others are so supportive. You are the best kitty mommy around.

All my best to her and you all.
