Please help. Been to the vet but he doesn’t have experience. I took this cat from a breeder that was selling her cats. Only had her for a couple of weeks. When I took her sweater off to bath her I found this marks, I though it was dirt but after the bath they didn’t come off. The breeder mentioned it’s food allergies but an allergic reaction normally are hives? Also it’s not bothering her, she is not scratching.Vet thinks maybe skin infection and we did send a sample to the lab. Has anyone seen this? They appeared pretty overnight

Welcome and congrats on your baby! Glad you went to the vet and they did a skin scrape. I would quarantine your baby until the results come back just in case it is something like ringworm. It is contagious to humans and often vets misdiagnose it on hairless animals as it can look different than on hairy animals. Please update us what the results turn out to be. Your information can help others in the future. Here is some info on skin issues you might find helpful as well Sphynx Skin Conditions

It could simply be a reaction to the sweater/detergent.

Yes that was my fear even though I don’t know how it would happen overnight. It’s been 3 days nothing has grown on the culture sample and the uv lift showed no rigngworm even though I know that’s not 100% reliable. It’s relaly hard to find a vet that knows these cats in my area and I hope that if someone did had an ellerfic reaction with food or clothing and looked this way can reach out. I am pretty nervous since she does sleep with me and if it was ringworm or something contagious my dog and myself can become infected.

Is it moist? It looks a little yeasty to me, but then again it would probably be itching her if that was it.

Ok then yeah it’s probably an allergic reaction to food or detergent.

@Laurab welcome to the lair family ... bless you for opening your heart and home to this sweetie ... want is her name ? all paws crossed for good news updates .

How long does she wear her sweater ? I would leave it off in case that is the source ..
What food is she eating ? Is it. The same for the breeder or recent switch ?

Some members csts had reaction to coconut oil , another Gain laundry pods .
One member switched to Dreft detergent .

So,e have alleergod to certain litters.. scemt d , walnut , wheat etc

Did your vet prescribe any meds? Shampoo ?

Well she did. Or eat very well when she arrived so I offered her chicken, ham and anything because the breeder said she ate anything. One day she just started eating royal Canin kitten and she is eating that now and likes it. Do allergies look like this in this breed?

@Laurab allergies can take on various appearances as does ringworm

Continued positve vibes
Keep us updates wit then vets Diagnosis

Did she wear her sweater non stop for the first few weeks with you ?
Did the breeder tell you her health background ? Provide her vet records ? To see if she has had something like this before ?

Update- fungal culture was negative for ringworm after a week
Going to see a dermatologist tomorrow.
Also found a little of dry skin, Could that be too? Do any of you use any lotion for dry skin for them?
I don’t know what this is and it is driving me crazy. She is fine, but I hope the specialist tomorrow can give me an answer

Hopefully the dermatologist will have more answers for you. Not ringworm is a good start, one option to cross off the list!

@Laurab so glad not ringworm

We have had discussion here with weird skin markings believed to be hormonal
Ask the specialist if possible it is hormonal ?
Following closely for updates

I use olive oil on Ellie when she gets dry. It soaks in readily.

Dermatologist update - couldnt say by looking at it what it is. Thinks it can be allergies or A bacterial infection. I’m dissapointed, got a shampoo and we will wait 2 more weeks for culture. Some it went away, I will post pics because I don’t understand how that can change but gives me hopes it’s not ringworm.

Strange that they couldn’t tell you what it is. I’d be disappointed too. Hopefully that shampoo works. If not, time to figure out what the allergy is.

Does the dermatologist that you saw also treat allergies? Or do allergy testing?

My Agnes has bad allergies. We have done many months of medicated shampoos, antibiotics for skin infections/rashes and so forth. Finally, I went to a dermatologist/allergist vet and we did allergy testing. She is allergic to multiple trees, weeds, grasses and people. Thankfully, the one thing she isn't allergic to are dogs lol! (I have 2 resident k9s and I foster for a local rescue group also) We have been doing allergy injections for her and it seems to help somewhat. This was a last resort as I couldn't stand to see her suffer with the constant rash and skin infections. Aggie is a much happier cat since starting them.
