Hi !
I have my babygirl for a month now and I can't take the smell of her poop! I trade her food for a grain free one a couple of days ago. Is anybody there who can help me with tips? I can't give her raw food now . Last night the smell woke up me and my husband and we couldn't sleep.

By the way she is healthy . Her stool sample was tested and it's ok...

I've just learned to scoop as they poop (even if I didn't they'd make me they yell once they poop to let me know as if my nose can't tell lol) sphynx have some bad smelling poop but once you scoop and flush the smell is gone just as quick if they happen to poop when I'm not home when I get home I scoop and light either a candle with scent or insense then the smell goes quiet quick. And yes occasionally they will poop in the middle of the night which yes wakes me then I just get up scoop and get back into bed I've made peace with it lol it is what it is

Maybe give her some time after transitioning to the new diet and see if that helps.

You haven't mentioned the consistency of the poop? Is it normal or is it runny? Sometimes that smells worse... and you could try some things to help firm it up.

Also what food are you feeding? Evolve is wheat free but not grain free

We've come to terms with Sphynx poop being exceptionally odoriferous. We watch the girls when we notice they're headed to a litter box to make sure we avoid the dreaded "poofoot" (still runny), we scoop VERY often, and have an air purifier in our room so they don't stink us out at night. Other than that- it's like having a baby- they just don't smell very good on the back end. Lol. Wouldn't trade em for the world though!!

They have stinky butts enough to knock out an elephant - and no diarrhea - they just stink I scoop scoop and scoop- even getting out of bed at night to scoop - Years ago I read an article - "Sphynx cats- reason not to buy one- ". lol
Stinky butt was on the list :)

I scoop ( I use unscented litter ) and sprinkle a teaspoon of armor hammer litter box deodorizer and mix it in the litter after scooping a really smelly one :) not too much or it gets dusty
And a squirt of air freshened

Drogon's poop can clear a room :dead:so we learned to just scoop as he poops but we recently got the Litter Genie and it's awesome! You just scoop the poop and drop it in the genie and it locks in all the stink! and it can hold quite a lot!

Odis sometimes has some pretty stinky ones! I actually even got one of those air spritzers and hung it up high to help with the smell. What kind of litter do you use? We use Dr Elseys… it really works and helps with the smell and clumps well. might be worth trying!

Cat poop is the nastiest stuff in the world for smell.
There is some litter made from Walnut shells that is supposed to be GREAT

Give it a try.

Rigsby had poop is so bad, the others won't use the same box as her. We treated her for Giardia even though it showed up negative. The vet said she could possibly still have had it. That helped some, we switched foods, which also helped. She has IBS. Some days are horrible, some aren't. It is an improvement of what it was. I think that may have been a reason they didn't want her anymore.

hi
i am in the same boat. the smell is awful. i was bring down the ittle box from my sons room as Zamzam slept with him and the smell nearly knocked me out. i felt the smell even on my clothes and skin for ages afterwards.

he goes about 2-3 times a day. we open the doors and windows after he has been and i clean the litter box once a day but, after reading the other posts i'll also do it everytime he poops.

i am trying different food brands and types at the moment. ill let you know if that helps.

If the poop is runny or diarrhea, its not uncommon, especially with a newer cat or kitten coming home with Giardia - which smells horrible and the cat or kitten generally has diarrhea. Also, you can get a false negative with a stool sample which is why many vets will just treat for parasites like Giardia to be safe with no harm to the cat. Just thought I would throw that out there. http://sphynxlair.com/community/threads/sphynx-cat-with-diarrhea-giardia.3610/

Am I the only one on this forum that has to do a visual check to tell whether the litter box has been used...?

I'm well aware of the Sphynx's pungent reputation, and I made peace with that before I adopted Miss Demeanor. For the first couple of days, I noticed some definite stench when she used the box (as well as some residue on her - not much, but enough to warrant a quick swipe with a wet wipe). The odor disappeared once I transitioned her to a primarily wet-food diet, and I'm sure she appreciates not being chased about the house by a wipe-wielding human after box visits.

^^^^^TLDR version, wall-o-text below:

The breeder I got her from fed mostly Royal Canin (free-choice dry, wet for dinners) and boiled chicken for treats, so I'm speculating two things:
1) Royal Canin dry foods do have grain and/or starches in them. They might be less starch/plant protein heavy than, say, Alley Kat or other budget brands, but the kibble still has enough indigestible fiber and poorly digestible plant proteins to nourish oderiferous levels of natural bacteria inside the cat. The extra fiber is also probably behind the indignity of enforced bum-wiping, as it has the same effect in cats as in humans.
2) I have her on a mostly wet-food diet (kibble is considered a treat/training tool), and I feed her raw meat occasionally. The result is that the litter (corn-based crap given to me by a friend "you gotta try it it's the BEST LITTER EVER!") smells worse that what she leaves in it. Before the pitchforks and torches come out, read this page and you'll see where I'm coming from. I wish I had the time and resources to prepare homemade custom food for her, but I don't. Instead, I go to the store, read the ingredients labels, and get her the ones that don't have any starchy/grain ingredients way up on the list. At the moment, her main diet is comprised mostly of Friskies' classic pate (big cans are $.99 at the Petco near me, and they don't have gluten/flour/starch like the "cuts/chunks/shreds in gravy" flavors), Sheba (again, the flavors without starchy gravy) that I got a coupon for, a smattering of Fancy Feast flavors, and some dice-sized raw chunks of whatever meat I'm cooking today.

No you are not the only one

For the most part it seems like if you find the right food for your sphynx, be it a good quality wet food or raw food you can get to a stage where the litterbox does not smell.

Some people seem to have made peace with the fact their litter box stinks but I do not believe it is necessarily just "one of those sphynx things"

That is my experience anyway. Maybe all sphynx are different? and some have more sensitive tummies than others.

I found a green tea scented tofu litter that is awesome as long as he covers his dirty deeds I can not smell them but if is left uncovered holy cow. I clean my litter tray or check it every time I go to the loo. As it is placed right by the loo It is weird when we pee at the same time.
I’m not sure if it is a Chinese thing the tofu litter. I have seen a Russian brand but the green tea scented one smells awesome. My house always smells like fresh green tea
