Hi everyone, my name is Shanel and I have a 11 month old sphynx named Meemow. I've wanted one of these cats forever for their personality and unique looks, however now that I have my little boy , I am unable to enjoy him due to how bad he smells. Not his skin because I bathe him weekly but his butt!! He is so gassy, NEVER has solid poop and sometimes "leaks" on stuff that will make the whole room smell disgusting. This has been going on since I got him and it's to the point where I don't sleep with him or cuddle him and am constantly doing laundry if he lays on anything. I have had him tested for parasites and he had none, put him on antibiotics, tried yogurt, tried pumpkin and even gas pills for cats. Nothing has worked, we were told he may have IBS but I feel like there has to be something to make it go away or get better. I am afraid that if this continues with no way to resolve it , i may need to find him a new home. I just woke up this morning with pink eye in both eyes which I am sure is due to him leaking everywhere. PLEASE let me know if anyone has experienced the same thing. Is this common? Any suggestions, I'm desperately looking to keep him! thanks

OMG he is sooooo cute. I am sorry you are having problems. I have similar issues with Vito but they don't sound quite as bad as yours.

We just finished a round of tylosin which is supposed to help with colitis that the vet says he has. Since then he smells much better but not much change in consistency or mucus drips.

We are still working on it. What kinds of testing and meds have been tried? Have you tried a different diet?

I hope someone has better suggestions.

I would recommend trying a different diet, or if he's on wet food decreasing the amount of wet food he is on. I noticed my boy's poop got a bit more solid once he went to one can of wet a day instead of two.

aww he looks just like my girl Wednesday!

Have you tried:
changing his diet? (may need to go through a few different foods until you find one that will solidify his poopies)
changing his litter? (that will also help with the dirt under his belly)
kitty diapers/pants? (try Joybies Piddle Pants)
wet wipes for his booty? (I have a box in my office, a box in my bedroom, a box by the couch, etc...)

Sounds like kitty piddle pants may be the fastest solution for you right now. You can also google "how to convert a baby diaper into a cat diaper" for some extra help.

Hello!I am so sorry you are going through this. I had a similar issue with my newest Sphynx. He had diarrhea to the point where I was not enjoying him AT ALL. I took him to the vet, & they put him on a prescription feline food for awhile. Then I gradually switched him to a different food - the diarrhea stopped, thank GOD! Try a gradual switch. My cry for help on the Lair was the same as yours!! "Smelly cat"!

Welcome to our family of friends! I would try a raw diet if you have acccess to a commercially prepared one. It will reduce the smell and might clear up the diarreah.
Good luck,
Susi and the gang
