ok so heres the story ..
about a week ago someone called us from our vets office . saying they found a sphynx cat and they wanted to give him away .
so i went over there and they have kept him in a separate room (so no one would know he was there they really wanted us to take him) in a carrier because they didn't want anyone to touch it until the vet checks it
i just saw this little black sphynx looked like he was about a month old
my boyfriend said his tail was filled with long hair but i didn't notice that at all
so anyways it was a weekend and well we live in a very small apartment its basically a big room with a bathroom and we already have one sphynx who is terrorizing the place
and he also needs to be bottle feed and i just got eliot off formula a month ago i was so tired of that thing so we just couldn't take him in

so now a week has passed and i took eliot to the vets office to get his last vaccination (YAY!!!)
and i asked about the kitten .. well they said this lady took him in and he was too weak and didn't make it .. it made me very sad that i could have taken him in and maybe saved him .. but i guess it wasn't meant to be

well the they have 3 vets over there this one who owns the place is an orthopedic or something and he was saying that the cat was not a pure bred sphynx and claimed he was even mixed with this preticular breed or some bull crap :Dizzy:

and well even i from my short time of knowing sphynx could tell that its a don sphynx and not a canadian and i do actually belive it was pure bred ..

i don't know if im wrong but i never actually saw a sphynx who is completely naked
they always have hair on their ears legs tail and noes i mean thats just how they are
and i have seen a bunch having long ear hair or long tail hair
and i have also seen some who are mixed and had long hair all over their body's or long hair on their chest i mean that really obvious

but to claim that it is mixed just from looking at its tail hair ? and claiming to know what its mixed with by that little hair ? that just sounds unbelievable to me

today when i went to the vets office again i got to meet a new vet which i have never met before (and i am completely happy with her by the way, she is so nice she sat down with me and i got to ask her stuff and just talk to her!)
and she actually admitted not having any expirience with sphynxes and thought they are completely naked so i explained most of them actually have hair and it sometimes grows more in the winter ..

so im just really pissed with them making people belive they are such experts ( not that im calling myself one) but cant even tell if its a don or a canadian and not knowing they actually have hair it just annoys me

but at the same time after this long story i want to know once in for all
if i am right .. i have never seen a completely naked sphynx with no hair on they noes or ears and i dont think it is right saying its not pure bred because it has a little bit of hair on its tail .. since it doesnt make sense it would be mixed with a hairy cat and come out completely hairless with little hair on his tail like really ?? :Dizzy:
and also this kitten was probably bought by some breeder and maybe ran away from home i doubt that someone would actually sell a sphynx who is mixed why would someone by it ?
sphynx breeders at least over here have to be very special and big cat lovers so i doubt they would even mix it with a non sphynx breed there is also a very small amount of these cats over here so its sometimes cuisines mating or things like that

what do you think about it ? am i right or am i wrong ?

There can be rubber bald, completely hairless sphynx but most sphynx have hair on their ears, noses and often times on their feet and tails. Food choice, weather/daylight hours and hormones can also cause a sphynx to grow hair. Sometimes it drops out again and sometimes not. To say a sphynx isn't purebred because of some hair, is not what I would expect coming from a vet--eventhough they are a rare breed. Sphynx outcrosses often are fully coated....but are still sphynx....although I think you have to be an F4 to be considered purebred. But I would have to look that up....I can't remember as I don't outcross.

well the assistant asked me what shampoo do i bath him with, and the vet asked why do i give it baths so i said because their skin can get vert oily and they can get acne and stuff if i don't do that so she said "their skin gets oily??"

i feel really stupid for having to explain that to a vet .. i mean its ok if she doesn't know they have to be bathed but asking if they have oils in the skin ? you're a freaking vet what the heck were you doing in you're 8 years of school ???

well i guess i'll just have to just ignore it and just let them do what they have to do with every normal cat
i know i won't be consulting them if he gets acne or something thats for sure

I have an F3 Black and white fully coated sphynx. I have his papers. I got him from a co worker years ago who breed sphynx and orientals. She gave him to me since the coated ones she never sold. She either kept them or adopted them out to families or friends she knew. Sebastian's father was an F4 and hs mother a pure breed Siamese. He is considered a sphynx and by far the best, most loveable cat i have ever owned. My boyfriend now has him trained like a dog, he comes on command, sits on command and shakes a paw! I wll be heartbroken when he is no longer with us. He is 8 1/2 and as playful now as he ever was!
