My sister works at a big petstore and once had a woman come in whose dog was named "Doctor". That still makes both us laugh when we talk about it!!

We named our new girl, Freya, (Fray-ah), after a goddess of Norse mythology:

Freya, Mistress of Love, Beauty and War. Fierce and lovely, Freya embodies the grace, power, and magic that the word Goddess conjures up.

She is the patron Lady of young lovers, warriors, many witches, and cats. Her magic is strong and her compassion is legendary!

Often appearing unclothed to her followers, she is always described as the most beautiful of women.

Cats are particularly sacred to Freya. In addition to the two large cats who pull her chariot, other cats are generally associated with this kind and loving Goddess. Whether it's their grace, their beauty or their fierce nature when provoked, cats are the special darlings of Freya, often carrying messages for her. (Of course, sometimes they take a nap while enroute...)

I thought it a fitting Sphynx name!

Oh no, I am quite scattered, lol, most times we let the kids pick names, and end up with Chain (fish) and Tickles (JRT), This time I was determined to pick my own grown up name!

Re: Egyptian Sphynx names

Cool those are great! I love the unique names that have meanings to them. My boy Ariston's name is Greek and means "of excellence."

I try to save a list of all the name ideas that I come across and like in a word document so I don't forget them.

I would like to see more name ideas admin.

We decided on Kreacher for ours...but thats not before going through a million names. some of the ones we thought of that were best specifically for the Sphynx are: Chicken Wing, Yule Brennar (Brenner?), Smeagle (from Lord of the rings), Yoda, Dobby(Harry Potter house elf), Birthday Boy/Girl, Gollum(Lord of the rings), Balfazar (the dog/dragon character from The Never Ending Story Movie), my husband suggested Ball Zack...ugh..I guess he thought he was being funny, Stripe (Character from the movie Gremlins), Pai Mei (little chinese dude from Kill Bill2), Mr. Miyagi,

I had a Siamese cat while growing up named Mr. Miyagi. :)

Wow! Great name. Thanks for sharing all the legend that goes with it. Will be storing this one away in my memory banks!

I think Archibald would be so cute. "Archie" hehe

Or Chemo. Which is funny to joke about, but probably wouldn't be so fun in the long run LOL. Hubby is just happy there will be something more bald than him in the house XD

My husband wanted SO badly to name our first sphynx Chemo, but I had Karma fears. Good to know he's not the only one to think of this name!! :Hysterical:

I have a name picked out, if the right sphynx ever finds me

PinkyOddEye Von Zeus

obviously would have to be an odd-eyed pink girl. Sounds kind of exotic if you say it quickly. The Von Zeus just makes her sound regal lol Sometimes I call Blue "BlueMackerel Von Zeus" because he's a mackerel tabby but it just doesn't have the same ring :p

LOL! Well, it started as a joke. The Peterbald (what I was originally looking for) is long and graceful, reminded me of the Arabian stallion Khemosabi.

I told my hubby I liked the name Khemo and he nearly spat out his drink and laughed, telling me I was terrible, it took me a second but.. I got it LOL

I once had a cat called Count Doctor Archibald Kirchhoff the third.
He was a cat my dad had found on a staircase in his building. He looked like a russian blue but with darker stripes on his tail.

I mostly like down to earth names like:
Esther
Decibel ;)
Molly
Yoda

We actually chose Decibel because it wasnt so fancy. And I like that it almost sounds like Daisybelle.

My favorite Sphynx cat name is "Disco Nofurno". That cracked me up! I had a few names picked out when I got my Sphynx kitten: Won Ton, Chernobyl, Shadowfax (Gandalf's horse in Lord of the Rings), Roswell. After meeting my kitten I realised he looked just like "Nosferatu" the famous Vampire-black and white 1930's movie. His fingers looked just like the vampires' and the pale skin helped too! We took the S out of it to make No fur atu...which some people think is dorky but I like it. My second favorite cat name is "Sushi". I attached a pic of Nosfuratu...

I love coming up with kitty names. My Sphynx was already named when I got her and I didn't want to change it on her. It is Snuffleupagus and she goes by Snuffie. Not sure how she came up with the name but it does fit her. Other kitties I've had have been:
(I'll start from childhood and none of these kitties were Sphynx)
Tigger (tabby) RIP
Patches (tortie) RIP
Sugar (tabby) RIP
Precious (tabby) still around somewhere - had to rehome him when I moved to Ohio :(
Fluffy (flame point hymalayian) RIP
Casey (all white - mean cat - rescued) RIP
Spooky (big green eyes) RIP
O'Ryan (rescued from snow storm, had 6 kitties on me) RIP
Tipperz (had white tips on her ears) Rehomed due to move
Mischeif (held to her name and we called her Missy) Rehomed due to move
Oreo (Black on the outside, white on the inside, haha) rehomed due to move
and now Snuffie my Sphynx - hopefully she will be around a long long time and I wont have to move! lol

i've used up a lot of names, thanks to various foster animals that have come my way. some of my favorite foster names have been:

static- a very clingy great dane
maestro- a beautiful siamese rat
karma- a little skin and bones thing i picked up as her "owner" was walking in the pound door

my three old ferrets are "failed fosters"- fosters that just never left. they are named after an anime series- vash, rem, wolfwood

for my personal animals, i prefer gaelic names (but my husband hates them) old fashion people names, and nature names. my boxer is watson (reg. "the hound of baskerville", 'cause the akc wouldn't accept "no $hit, sherlock"), and my pit/mix is river.

i also like unusual word names- poppet, maestro, zephyr, lore, aria....

if i got a female shpynx, i was planning on naming her wisp. i'm getting a male, though, and i made the mistake of promising my husband i would name a boy burns, as in montgomery burns.

You are very correct Marnasobsession! I didn't name Snuffie. Her breeder's grandson did actually. lol She was already 8 months old when I got her and I didn't want the transistion to her new home to be any odder than going thru a name change as well so I kept it. I can live with it - I'm honored to have her in my life!

I just adopted a 6 year old female and her previous owner called her "Peaches" which is fitting for a hairless cat but not as regal as she is. I am looking for something kind of unique and exotic sounding. I like these names so far.

Nolia or Magnolia
Petunia or Tulip or Tulie
Meisha
Yula

None of them are really sticking. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas give me a holler! I posted some pictures of her too incase those can stir up some inspiration.

I am very bad at picking out names. I worry that because she is 6 years old changing her name may confuse her?
