In March of this year I lost my beloved Du that way. Someone let him out while we had company, he was very naughty about slipping into the garage but I always knew to watch for him. No one mentioned that he went out... if indeed anyone knew... It was sometime after when my husband mentioned that when he went outside to walk someone to the car that a *stray*cat ran past him in the garage. Horrors! I ran searching for Du. I looked all night and never found him. I posted reward ( a very very substantial one) I can only pray that someone did indeed *steal* him.
My heart goes out to the lady who lost her sphynx baby. I pray she has a happier ending.

So sorry for you lost!

OK so good news lodi dotti is back. my mom put up flyers at 11am today and she was outside by 2:30. The owner is so happy to have her back home. She had a safe return, only that she was very hungry and anxious. Thank you everyone for the help and just wanted to share the good news!!

So happy for her and her worried parents!

IT IS HARD WHEN THESE THINGS HAPPEN AND WE TEND TO BLAME OURSELVES. IT JUST HAPPENS. I AM SO SORRY. I AM SURE THAT WAS A HEART WRENCHING NIGHT FOR YOU.

Glad your friends kitty is back!!! I decided to use a squirt bottle on Niles when he started to do this. It only took a few squirts to get him to stay a safe distance from the door when I am trying to leave.

What a relief! Please have your friend train her kitty to stay away from doors. I prop a door open and stand outside with a garden hose and when I see a head peeking out it's squirt time. Is a bit drastic but I guarantee it takes 2, maybe 3 squirts and kitty isn't going near that door again. And if she takes the kitty outside on a harness, please tell her to carry the cat outside in her arms or in a carrier; never let the cat associate getting outside with something he does of his own accord. The training isn't 100% certain to prevent a sneak-out pet but it's a heckuva lot better than a cat dashing out whenever it gets the chance.

Good advice!!!

Gizmo has been taught that when I say "wanna go outside?" He runs to the kitchen to get his harness on... and you are right... I pick him up and carry him outside. And I have no problems with him even going near the door when I open it.
