I have my first ever Sphynx (Joker, he's a little over a year old). I have a couple of other cats ( a Siamese and a Snowshoe) and he doesn't like them very much. They don't fight but he chases them off of the sofa and his other "spots" in the house. I've heard/read that Sphynx don't really care for other cats, that being said I was wondering would he be calmer if he had another Sphynx for company? Also he has developed odd patches of fur. It's really short and soft, almost like "fuzz" on his back end almost on his hips and on his tail. He wears a shirt a majority of the time and it's almost like the fuzz is only where his shirt doesn't cover his skin. Is this normal? I was just wondering. I love my Clown Prince of Crime and I want to be sure that I'm doing everything I can to give him the best life possible. Thanks in advance for any information I receive. I have really enjoyed this site and becoming a part of this community.

Sounds like he's living up to his name! I've never heard Sphynx not liking hairy cats? In fact I know a lot of people who have both and have no problem. With that being said it could just be his personality as some cats just don't care much for other cats.

As for fuzz it's pretty standard. Many sphynx grow it seasonally and others just keep a little in certain spots. Most common places are ears, nose, feet, hips and tail.

Thank you for the info! I'm trying to learn as much as possible about the breed as I want to take the best care of my Puddin' that I can. Thanks again!!

No problem! This is a great place for info and to just share your love of the breed

Some things that could factor into intolerance to other cats could be personality, gender and them being fixed. I'd say if there is no aggression it may just be the way it is. Getting a new sphynx isn't a terrible idea but I'd only get another one if you want 4 cat and with the understanding that joker may not like the new kitty either. (It is much easier to transition a kitten into a home than an adult)

I think it's just Joker is spoiled and thinks he rules the roost. He's the youngest and the other cats have learned to sleep somewhere other than "his" spots. LOL Thanks again for your help. We might get another one sometime in the future but not anytime soon. I think one Sphynx is enough right now. LOL :cat:

they are more like monkey, dog, toddler cats and can definitely be a handful! Joker is handsome by the way

Great advice from @dare2Bbare ! Our vet says there are cats who like other cats and cats that prefer people. How old are your older cats? We got a kitten when our cats were 9 and 16 years old. The kitten had way too much energy and the others would not play, so we bought a kitten for our kitten and they got along well and same energy level.

Joker is adorable and handsome!
With your other cats being "oldies" , I can imagine Joker wants to play more then they do and that he starts to annoy them when they doesn't want to play. Adding a young cat can give a buddy for Joker. But that's only a good idea when you have the time, money and space.

Sphynx are quite friendly actually and typically do well with other cats. That saying it depends on the other cats. It could be too that your sphinx personality is a bit to abrasive for your senior cats. Feliway can help if your not already using it. Fuzz is common. Sphynx can vary in degrees of hairlessness. It can be genetic or can depend on weather/ temps.
