Starting raw diet tomorrow...any advice???

I am starting my Rex on a raw diet tomorrow. I ordered ground rabbit (rabbit,organs,bones) and alnutrin. Any advice? suggestions?

Remain calm. Sometimes they don't take food switches in stride. You may have to add cheese or gravy to engage the kitty into eating it. Mine don't like it 'too cold' which means I have to heat the baggie up under running warm water to take the chill off of it. You'll find what works best for your kitty kid(s)!!!!

grated cheese works well on top of it ! Start with small portions.... rather often but small...
Sara gave you already great advice ..

I bought ground rabbit and alnutrin to add for the vitamins he needs. do you recommend adding anything else other than the cheese and gravy if need be?

Just make sure that nothing you add contains onion or garlic. Those are very toxic to cats.

I don't think so. I recently switched my two and my tips would be:
  • Run it in a baggy under some warm water as Sara suggests to heat it up a tiny bit to room temperature
  • Start with a very small offering, like a treat just to see how they take it
  • Make sure it is fresh. I defrost overnight for the next day
  • Don't leave it out too long if your cat doesn't finish it and always wash dishes between meals.
  • Make sure to transition, don't just go full on raw. I did the change over 5 days (and 10 meals) changing the amount by 10% every time. eg. first meal: 10% raw 90% kibble
  • If you are transitioning from kibble like I was, it helped me with one of my cats to sprinkle crushed up kibble on top of the raw (just a tiny bit) so the smell was familiar
  • If they don't seem to like the rabbit try experimenting with other meats. I use chicken at the moment and going to try turkey next.
Hope this helps, and that your cat takes to it well! Don't be disheartened if they snub it at first, I was surprised as I expected they would both LOVE it. You can make it work, need to be a bit crafty/persistent ;)

Thanks for all the pointers, I used a little bit of everything lol. So far Rex is liking the raw food. Of course I added some of his wet food with the raw put some cheese on it lol and he took the bait!!! yay!
