Last night I was in the kitchen and all of a sudden Jouët started chattering and jumped up on the counter acting a bit more psycho than usual...lol. Well it became a perfect time to shoot some pics. A stink bug was flying around the kitchen light...perfect photo opt...my girlies had fun.

What a stink bug looks like for those of you who do not have them.

Ha! Great post and great pics!

I live in PA, which was where the first stink bugs in the US were documented in 1998. So, needless to say, there is a huge amount of them here. I hate those things so much... and every time the temperature goes up for half a day the darn things wake up and start being a nuissance again. Zoa gets so excited when she finds one, but I'm a jerk and ruin her day by catching them and killing them before she can. She always looks like I stole her ice cream when it happens lol.

I have heard that scientists have been working to see if it is a good idea to introduce the stink bug's natural predator (a tiny Asian wasp) to the US. Apparently the wasp feeds pretty much exclusively on the stink bugs, whereas our natural predators don't tend to. The lack of predation and the stink bugs' ability to avoid pesticides (they puncture and eat the INSIDE of fruit, completely bypassing the pesticides on the outside) is the reason they are running so rampant. There was a 60% increase in the stink bug population in the US between 2011 and 2012 alone! Sorry, that was probably boring info - I read a lot about stink bugs one day haha. Bring on the tiny Asian wasps! Until then, I'm rooting for Jouët ;)

Aww, your babies are beautiful. Really nice pics. I wonder if they're still talking behind your back about you ruining all their fun, lol

@Boonecat I did not ruin their fun...lol. I let that darn bug fly around in the light for a long time.I even moved the kitchen chair under the light so I could touch that bug and make it move to get shots!

Great pictures (as usual) Patti. I can't stand stink bugs. The cats love them of course. We say that Jezebel must be eating all the ones that we don't find and that's why her farts smell so bad :wtf::wtf::wtf:
