Hello, all!

First, I should update and say that overall Astor has been doing very well. Though this week he has hit a road bump...Tuesday, his appetite rapidly decreased and he hasn't eaten enough since.

The vet's office is closed on Wednesdays, but when I took him in on Thursday, the techs gave him 150cc's of fluids instead of his usual 100 (the Dr. wasn't in yet--I go first thing in the morning before work, but the techs were able to up the dosage without consulting him), and when I got home from work that evening, he was eating better. He still isn't up to normal, but it's still better than earlier this week.

Anyway, he also has tendonitis. UGH! I mean, as far as comorbidities go, it's a pretty good one--he's still active enough to have given himself the equivalent of an athlete's injuries ;)

But it does seem to be getting a little worse--it's his Achilles tendon, which for humans is the back of the ankle (the tendon that's extended when you flex your foot), but for cats it's the "knee" of the hind legs. It's swollen, red, and (according to the vet) a bit painful.

Has anyone dealt with this before?

not with a cat but I have it and I get laser treatment from my chiropractor. My vet has a therapy laser and Danser gets it for her arthritis. It help tremendously fro both of us and keeps us both off steriods.

I'm sorry that Astor isn't feeling well. Do you trust your vet 100% with the tendonitis dx? An x-ray was taken, right?

Awww, poor guy! Haven't had experience with it in a cat, but I hope he's better soon! (Well, I did have a cat with a dislocated hock & they splinted it. Can they splint this?)

Thanks for all the comments!

Unfortunately, tendinitis is no longer a major concern, as Astor's overall condition has worsened once again.

In addition to his kidney problems (which have recently flared up again), he also has HCM, which was just confirmed today.

He remains one of the happiest kitties I know, though. He caught his first fly last week and we've started venturing outside on the harness (after one trip outside he already knows what the harness means and gets super excited when I bring it out).

We're going to enjoy whatever time we have left. And I already have my eye on a breeder for the next time around (one with a three-year guarantee, who screens for HCM annually--and uploads the report online--and even promises to replace a kitten in the even of FIP). I don't know how much time I have left with my little boy, but I know that he's given me such joy that I can't imagine not getting another Sphynx.

Give your babies an extra head bump tonight.

Awww! What a brave little trooper.
Nothing's more tastier than a fly you caught by yourself!

I think a sphynxs whole goal in life is to love. I've never meet another animal so full of love.

Once you have a sphynx in your life you can't imagine life without them.

Keeping you & Astor in my thoughts & prayers.

I'm so sorry, little Astor, is sick. It's sad. But, like you said, enjoy everyday you have, with him.
Glad he has someone, that will gladly keep him, love him, and do all that's possible
for him, until the end.
