If you read one of my previous post you know I was suppose to be going to Georgia to pick up a beautiful sphynx girl named Tinkerbell. This morning while her owner had her at the vets office a rottiweiler broke off his leash and killed Tinkerbell. Her owner was trying to protect her and her arm was mauled. The owners husband let me know this morning and I am completely devastated. I hadn't even met Tinkerbell and I already loved her. It is the most horrible news. After losing my little sphynx kitten I was determined to have another because they are such loving creatures. My thoughts and prayers go out to Tinkerbell her human and their family.

OMG, that poor kitty! Now I am crying:Cry: Didn't Tinkerbell's owner have her in a crate?? Just asking, because the 2 times I took my Boone to the vet I crated him with that 1 thought in mind to protect him from dogs in the waiting room.

I'm so, so very sorry for your loss. I don't know what else to say to you.

Thank you! I'm not sure of all the details not sure about the crate or if she had already taken her out to get ready to be examined. I know the police came but I haven't spoke to the owner yet she is too devastated. I have only spoke with her husband. What a horrible sad thing to happen.

So tragic. I hope the owner's arm heals quickly. Like I just posted in another thread here, some things in life just aren't fair. Listen to me, as time goes on, the pain will lessen. You know this. I hope that you find another Sphynx baby soon or if not soon, then whenever you feel ready to open your heart to another one.

The owner is suppose to call me when she can. I told her husband to tell her she was a hero trying to protect Tinkerbell and getting hurt in the process. She really did love her. I have wanted a sphynx for years but with my growing family saving the money to get one was something that was on the bottom of the list. Kids and things they need came first. Then I found my little kitten and was so happy. But that turned out tragic, I still havent heard anything else back from that breeder. Then I found tinkerbell and her owner wanted her to go to a family and she chose my family over all the others she talked too. I will get another one day, even if I have to save for ten years. Thank you for your kind words.

You're welcome, sweetie. You sure do sound deserving of a Sphynx of your own. Your lucky :ThumbsUp:day will come.

What a horrible story, can't imagine what that woman went through when the dog attacked her sphynx! Very brave of her to try to rescue it, I think I would do the exact same thing.

Our vet only works with appointments and that way you hardly get to see other pets in the waiting room as you don't really have to wait your turn. I guess I'm double thankful for that now!

I'm very sorry for your loss, even though Tinkerbell was not living with you just yet, it must feel awful

I am so sorry to hear and feel your pain :(.

I don't like talking about it, but we had a similar incident when we were supposed to pick our Sphynx up. Gryff was supposed to have a playmate coming along with him...his brother. We were all set to pick them up in a week or so when I got the call that Gryff's brother was accidentally stepped on by my breeder's elderly tenant when the lil guy ran under foot and didn't make it. Being elderly, she couldn't recover and even injured herself trying to. I had to tell the wife when she got home. She was devastated, being that she got attached to them through pictures and already had names for them. It still bothers her when she sees some of the pictures that were sent over. Needless to say, I rushed out there a couple of days prematurely to go and pick Gryff up.

The best advice that I can give is to just hang in there. Sometimes there are events way beyond our control. Having been through it I know it's horrible, but once you do find one to take the place of Tinkerbell in your heart, you'll feel like the void has been filled somewhat, although not fully.

Every day at this point for us is a nail-biter because we're waiting to pick up Gryff's little brother Draco now from a subsequent litter. My wife, scarred from the last time won't rest or leave me alone (lol) until he's home. I spoke to my friend the breeder yesterday who said he's ready in about a week and a half....it's a deja vu moment for her, so she's really edgy now. I don't blame her though.

Anyway, I wish you and your husband the best in this tough time.

Thank you! I am also sorry for your loss. I am sure Draco will make it home safely to u and ur wife. I had another kitten and it died 11 days after I brought it home. It had strep g but I was unaware if it. And now tinkerbell is gone too. I hope I am lucky enough to have another sphynx one day. Again thank you!

I am so sorry you lost your Tinkerbell. That must have been horrible for everyone involved. My cats never go to the vet without a crate, not because I worry about them doing anything but just to protect them. I am truly sorry and hope the breeder has another bundle of joy for you soon.

I'm so sorry for you, this made me cry! I cant even imagine how horrable it must be for all involved. But it also makes me angry, animals should be safe at the vets! I've owned Staffies all my life and I know how to handle big/strong dogs, if an owner knows their dog is cat aggressive they shouldnt have it un-muzzeled at the vets where they know there is a 90% chance of their being other pets there! This is something that should never have happened. I cant even imagine what I would have done, I mean I love animals but if anything trys to hurt my baby its going to be in for a world of hurt.

I cant imagine how heart broken you must be. *HUGS* try to keep your chin up!

I agree about muzzling aggressive dogs. Even if they're the sweetest thing in the world, there's a chance that it may get set off and attack. My mother got bit in the face by her landlord's dog. The thing was always a sweet dog and never had an incident. One day, the landlord had the dog out in the front yard. My mother was petting it as usual, when it decided to lunge and bit her on the cheek.

When we brought Gryff in to be fixed someone walked in with a giant blue-nosed pit bull with a crappy little leash/collar and no muzzle. The thing was pulling towards every other animal in the place startling everyone, animals included, and it was obvious that the owner couldn't handle it. This thing could have eaten me for lunch, it was so big and stocky, lol. I kept thinking how if I owned that dog and knew for a fact that it wouldn't attack, I'd still muzzle him for the comfort of everyone else that could possibly be in that vet lobby. Case and point...a lot of people don't think. lol.

I do believe I will have another one day. Hopefully I will find one that needs a new home because right now we cant afford to buy another straight out. We already did that and that breeder has done nothing in response to that situation. The area where I live most people have never even seen a sphynx and think I'm crazy for wanting one since they are hairless. I will keep searching and maybe just maybe I will get lucky!

Which one? The first one or this one? I used to be a breeder of exotic reptiles and would make it a point to work things out with people where animals were proven to have been compromised and died, whether it be from shipping, etc. If the animal died in my possession before even being able to ship, I'd issue full refunds. I believe it's good business practice to acknowledge unfortunate events, as long as my feeling is like someone is looking to take advantage. I am hoping that you do get lucky find your sphynx as they are an asset in every way. My wife and I just moved and felt the place was missing something. Our sphynx made the home complete.

What a horrible story :Hysterical: I am so sorry for your loss, especially that it wasn`t the first one. You must be devastated. I am sure that you will find consolation soon.
As for the kitten, I think you should get a refund, because strep g is not something that kills within 11 days, the little one must have been infected way sooner, very likely by his mother.

The first kitten I got in April. He was only 6 weeks when I picked him up and he died 11 days after I bought him home. The pathology report said he was he group G streptococcus. He was septicemic. I have spoke with the breeder and she said to send her the report and she would have her vet look at it. And nothing. Havent heard a word from her. The sphynx that got killed this morning was in georgia. Her owner had fallen on hard times and had to get rid of her and her sister so I was going to go pick her up. We were going to take our little ones to see Thomas the Train in Chattanooga this weekend and was going to drive another two hours to pick up Tinkerbell.

Thank you! And about the kitten that is what the pathology report says is that it was umbilicus. i have told the breeder this and she was even a vet tech so Idk how she couldn't know that. I am still waiting to hear something from her.
