I started Vito on Fresh Pet food a few weeks ago as a way of transitioning him to raw. It took 5 days to get him off the kibble completely and onto the Freshpet. There were no problems. His poop stopped smelling when his diet became 1/4 fresh pet and he now poops ever 2 days. Is this ok?

He hasn't vomited since the kibble was stopped. He was sick Christmas Eve but that may have been the wet food pouch I gave him as I was running low on food. Bad mom, I know.

I want to start introducing a tablespoon of raw to his meals. Is it too soon? Does he need to say on just the Fresh Pet a little longer?

I will be feeding Red Dog Blue Kat. It is made here in BC. There are many varieties, bone added and boneless. I will get some organ meat as well for treats.

What do you think?

Make sure you have the proper ratio of organ/muscle/bone.....and you'll be fine. No need to transition him at all if he will eat the raw right away.
Good luck,
Susi and the gang

Thanks Susi. He wouldn't eat enough of the raw last time we tried. But then I didn't have Parmesan cheese either. Lol

What a bugger. I bought two pkgs of premade raw plus a pkg of fresh pet to transition him to raw as the last two attempts failed. I gave him a one inch square of the chicken and almost a full scoop of the fresh pet. I put a tiny bit of Parmesan cheese on the chicken and he ate most of that first.

I also bought some chicken hearts and when I was separating them a piece broke off so I put that in his dish too.

Not sure what all has been eaten yet as I don't want to hover. Also I got a different brand. I got Buddies which is a more local company about an hour away.

Looks good so far. Maybe third time is the charm!

This is what was left when he walked away from the dish. I could totally tell when he was eating the heart bit. He looked like a wild cat chowing down.

After I took the pic, I put his dish back down and he cleaned it all up!

Hi Farleys,

I got your PM. The fresh pet I am using is Vital the Ancestral diet. It is the one WITHOUT grains and such.

I have given Vito 3 meals with a taste of raw so far and I believe this to be our last bag of fresh pet. The bags are small and last 4-6 days in this house.

I like the fresh pet because you can feed it with raw which you can't with kibble. His poo smell improved within a day and a half. He now goes every second day.

I would first make sure your boy is healthy and that he has no parasites or other medical conditions that may be causing his poo issues. Diet is the obvious one in most cases but it is best to be sure first.

Hope this helps. Any other questions just ask.
