Send good vibes for Ollie, I think he has a cold. He has had weepy eyes for the last couple of days. Started out watery, I thought maybe when he got behind the TV he got some dust in his eyes but it has continued. I found some lyseine today and started him in 250 mg today. I wish I had it on hand sooner. He is eating and playing, just a few more eye goobers than usual. I hope he gets over it soon without it getting any more concerning :cat:

What would the vet usually prescribe? Should I worry if it is only eye symptoms? They look watery, a little discharge but regular colour, just a bit more. Having to wipe his little face a few times a day. He is squinting, probably because they are watery. Think I will wait for now, but advice appreciated. I'm not sure how fast a cold turns in a cat. I've never encountered this with my furry cats in the past.

Oh....generally what amount do people,e use of lyseine? I used 250 mg yesterday (1/2 capsule) just once but have read if people using 500 mg 2 x a day if cat is sick....

@ Ollie my vet said for us to follow the directions on the bottle (we use the powder form.) Ours says for adult cat 500mg 2 x a day and for kittens 250 mg 2x a day. Our vet said it is not something that we needed to worry about giving too much. Does your L-Lysine product have a recommend dosage on it?

I use what is directed on the bottle. Hairry and violet have been sneezing up a storm the past three days and my allergies have been drving me crazy. We live in Pollen heaven here in the southeast. Hope Ollie feels better soon!!

I purchased Lysine for people....it has no other fillers, it is in a 500mg capsule so I open and split in half. Thanks for advice. I think I will give him 250mg twice a day and wait and see a day or two to see how he does. Darn I wish I started at first sign of his cold....live and learn. I'm sure he will be fine. Pollen heaven sounds warm.....no pollen in -20 C. Wonder if your cats have allergies?

Yes, it's in the high 70's one day then the 5o's the next. There is a yellow like dust on everyones car because of there being so much pollen in the air. I keep a steady supply of allergy meds for everyone (humans and pets). I am a Southern California girl so I am not use to cold weather or pollen for that matter. Hope you stay warm.

Ugh THAT much pollen that it covers cars...wow. The one time I was in Georgia last March it was COLD!!! There's positives and negatives to living everywhere I guess....though wonder if Hawaiians complain about too much sun lol

Update: so far he is not looking any worse for wear other than the watery/ weepy eyes. Hubby kept him warm all day. Gave him extra treats ( lol yah like more food is going to solve it but he's a guy . And we delayed his weekly bath until he is better. I gave him more Lysine today so hopefully it will just be minor.

Oliver seems to be holding his own. I think his eyes look a wee bit better, few sneezes but I think he's going to be okay. Going to continue Lysine until all signs are gone. Thanks for advice and well wishes.
