I wasn't looking for "raw", just looking for the best cat foods during my search and I initially came across the site below:

Me too, I've never tried any of those foods, but right now the canned food on this site interested me a lot. I'm not ready to do raw and I have a lot of hesitation about it, not only because of inconvenience, etc., but because of bacteria.

The Can food yes they have "taste of the Wild" on it. I used to feed that, but with that, they had runny poo all the time. I think because of the Fishcontent in it. Its excellent Food, Hansel was on the Dry for a long time and my Vet approved on that food a lot she said its high quality.

What I mean by that is the extras, the snacks. Such as a turkey neck, etc. Even if that is cut up into pieces, the cats would still run off with it and eat it elsewhere in the house. Right? They wouldn't stand over their food bowl to gnaw at a piece of turkey neck? I'm asking, I'm not telling. I'm just asking because these are the pictures I have in my head of the entire raw diet.
So that being said, my visions are a raw turkey neck landing up on my couch or my bed or my kitchen counter or table as they take their snacks away to eat in peace. LOL
So help me out, would that happen? Can that happen? I have no clue about the raw diet. All I do know is that I've only heard good things about it from the people that do the raw diet for their pets. Oh, I also hear a lot that their pets are hungry. That concerns me too because I know that my boys pick at their dry food all day and all night. I'd be so sad knowing that they think they are missing out and that mommy is being mean and "starving" them. I would cry. I really would.
I'm always thinking though. I'm always wondering if I should switch their food or not. Maybe it's just the fear of the unknown that holds me back. That's probably it.

I totally agree with you, Susi, an I love that saying too, but there is a little "broke" here and there. That's why I consider some sort of change.

Liam is thin, Grayson is chubby. Liam is the only one that has totally firm and formed stool. Simon does most of the time, but there can be soft to part watery at the end of a bm.

Grayson is always VERY soft and not always quite formed.

I love Grayson being a big boy with his chubbiness, but I am afraid it can get worse and then cause health problems. I look at Liam and he's thin, but comparing him to Grayson or even Simon, I fear that Liam is too thin. He doesn't even have any belly that sticks out.

I did a lot of research before i switched and i am glad it worked for me. It could have went other ways.
When i give the food, they eat over their bowls. They dont drag it away at all.
The big one does not eat chickennecks cut up, but the lil Sphynx does and I put the cut up pieces in a tubberware what is a bit deeper and he does not drag it away either, he might look over his shoulder for the other animals , but stays with the big bowl. ( thank god! )
The food that he does RUN away with is my cooked omlette though ! He runs away with that one because he knows he is WRONG! and he is fast ! Usually under the Table he runs with stuff he is NOT allowed to have.

Funny story though , while you say drag it into bed. My husband makes with his Brother once a year Kielbasa ( spell ?) , they make home made sausage for Thanksgiving and Christmas and we brought ours home, froze some, cooked some and cutit up and put in Fridge. So next morning i get up and Art ( husband ) says, did you see me last night ? I said , no. why ?
Art: i got woke up in the middle of the Night with my Hand under my Pillow and i thought..whats this weird feeling in my hand ? He said he pulled his hand out and had a huge piece of cooked Sausage in his Hand ! hahahahaha i about died laughing and said NO WAY !He said , go look for the grease spot under the pillow !!! I did and there it was !! Guess what i did that day ?? Wash Bedsheets and pillows and stuff ! haha I said what you do with the sausage ?? He said, i chucked it to the dog ! hahaha
My husband does sleepwalk to the Fridge a lot and eat at night. Usually if i hear him up at night i say 'what you doing get out the fridge!!!!' hahahaha

As for the litterbox problem and stench- both mine were runny poo and gas omg they stunk so bad and 4 to 5 times the litterbox and that stunk so bad , i had to air the whole House out. It was bad !!
Someone told me to cut the Fish out. I did , i went and ordered from Online Cat can food made by People in People facilties , I had the food written down somewhere . That was good for only so long.The little guy went a bit better with his potty troubles. Hansel though didnt get any better and he puked a lot. So thats when i started really diving into the Raw feeding and started it everything went right away from day One so much better i was very impressed. I thought Hansel ( the older one ) would probably not touch it, but noooooo he is worse then the little man, he gobbles it up so quick ! ( i stick with beef and chicken ) I did pork once and Hansel started barfing again. So no Pork.
Even though my husband sees the Good difference in the Cats , he still does not like me feeding them Raw. Because he says, they always seem Hungry. But he also knows the Lil sphynx was never a Grazer, he is a Inhaler.

Maybe try the Freezedried first if your not comfy with raw raw . See or they even like that one. They may not even care for it . If you have a Good Specialty Petstore near You, they let you buy the smallest bag and bring it back if it does not work out for something else... ? I have one near by me and they are awesome, no questions asked, they take it back and give you something else.

I somehow dealt with the runny poo that got on the tails, the paws, my floor, MY BED (eww). Every time you would pick one guy up, you had a cloud of gas in your face. When it was chilly out and they wanted to come under the blanket, omg, talk about "dutch oven"!

The oddest miracle happened when I increased Liam's canned food. He stopped with the runny poos. I was at my wits end. If I didn't love him as much as I do, and if I was someone other than myself, he would have been in another home because of all the stomach issues. There was not one time that he made a poo that I wasn't washing him in the bathroom sink, washing my floors, changing my linens, etc.

So Liam's stomach issue resolved on it's own? ...Or did it resolve because I increased the amount of canned food I gave him? Who knows, I don't question it as I'm happy for him and I'm happy for me.

But the stench of his poos continues. I honestly do not know how many times a day I clean out the litterbox. Even my husband cleans it out too. These boys poo a lot.

Grayson and Simon have gas issues. It's just about every time you pick them up or speak to them firmly to get out of the closet (when I'm getting my clothes)...lol, they always leave behind a cloud of death!

When I came to the Lair a few months ago, all I heard was wonderful things about the raw diet. I had never heard of it before. So I mentioned it to my vet and he made a face and said not to change anything yet. I will be seeing my vet next week, I'm going to talk to him again and this time I'd like him to tell me why he made a negative face. Maybe he doesn't know much about it? Maybe he knows about it and hasn't seen any positive results? I have no clue, but I'm going to talk to him about it next week.

I do have one question that maybe you or anyone else using the raw diet for your pets can answer. My question is: Why is it when a pet is on the raw diet, do they not get dry food? My boys are so used to nibbling all day long and even all odd hours of the night on their dry food. Can a pet be on the raw diet let's say in place of their canned food, but also have dry food left out for them all the time or not?

the Reason not to give Dry food is , because it digests at a different time level then the Raw. The Raw for instance the Cornie uses it all in his body ( poops out once a da a very small ammount of poop , but once a day only! ) , the Sphynx goes twice but he gets a bit more Food and he has a higher level of Metabolsim. No stench. I dont even know when they go poo.

So they say, when you do feed Raw and want to give Kibble, you should have a 5 to 6 hour period between those two different Feeds, because it digests differently. So there would be no Grazing.
The Kibble has the Starches in it i think and other items that the Raw doesnt.

I do have kibble at home. Sometimes i give it to the Sphynx well over a few hours after Feeding Raw. He inhales it. He inhales everything though he is not a grazer. Its like crack to him.
When Hansel / the cornie comes and smells the kibble he eats and unfortunatly barfs it, his stomache is really sensitive ( thats why i try to not give him the kibble at all ) .
I dont feed Kibble every day. Its like a Treat for the lil one once a week. ( since its expensive Grain free kibble and i dont want to throw it out ) .

Your Poo story sounded like mine, i was going insane! Art called me the Poopnazi and pooppatrole and "watch out hairy here she comes again for your butt!!" I had to listen to it all, but man he came running out the box and was just covered in his runny poo all the time ! 5 times a Day !! And since both seemed to have such troubles with their Belly's i did the switch.
I wish they would love the Freeze dried, i tried it, they dont like it, they snub it. Walk away without touching it.
I think Natures Variety also has little Bags with , they look like Kibble but is raw bites, they snub that as well, they will not touch it. So i tried EVERYTHING before making my own.
Like i said, i have an awesome Petstore nearby and they give you the smallest Packages and if the Cats dont like it, bring it back and they give you something else. They understood the finicky Cats I have... i brought them in on a Field trip. hehe

I was scared my Vet would not like me feeding Raw, but it was quite the contrary. She was very supportive. She even sells the "natures Variety" stuff for her very sensitive Dogs and Cats she sees.
Maybe not make your own Raw at first, but experience here and there maybe as a Treat one day the "raw bites" ( they have different flavors and they look like little Treat bites ) , to see or they even snub it or not .

Let me know what your Vet says what he does not like about the Raw.

Our dog does not get it. We used to Eat Raw Meat in Germany all the time ( its a delicatess ) growing up. My Husband would never touch it ! haha

I put up with it somehow...because I'm not a quitter and because I'm responsible and was in love with Liam. BUT I was always on litterbox duty. Always watching, listening and waiting for him to get in there as I would "stand guard" so that I could grab him and scoop him up and take him right into the bathroom to at least wash his tail and butt. Then IF he turned around and stepped in it...well, you know the rest.

Well, there is different Raw diets out there.
Us personally i do the BitR ( better in the Raw ) its the Powder that we mix with either Ground meat or small cut up pieces and Water. I add a tad bit more water, because they need waterintake.
Mine get fed , 3 times a day ( 2 times would be good too ) , the package says 1/2 cup serving per cat per day. I give mine about 6 oz a day each. Thats what they were eating with the Can food 2 cans a day. And they get Treats. Hairy gets slightly more then Hansel .
I package mine in two different sizes, 4 oz bags and 2 oz bags. Freeze and thaw out as needed. I thaw out in the Fridge. I do 2 oz packages because sometimes i give Hairy more. He is younger and more active. He hasnt gained any weight ( like pouch or fat ) , neither has Hansel. But when you see they put on a bit of a pouch, then you cut slightly back.

oh Yeah , we know about Poopfoot all over the place!! Hairy used to step backwards , in it alllllllllllll the time. He hated to be wiped down and washed down, so he got smart and even though I was ready to grab him he ran like a ninja under the Dresser!!

i usually buy Grain Free Treats, there are some great ones out there, some from NewZealand, I forgot the name but it tells you on it, they are pricey . Blue buffalo came out with some Grain Free, they are awesome too.
THen i go to the local chinese Store and get "dried Fishflakes" , they absolutly love them,but they fart a lot on them !!!
I found some, they are called "my little lion" they are grain free too and they love em"

Well and then I give turkey neck pieces once a week to Hairy , raw cut in about one inch cubes he goes Insane for it. Gobbles them up like in minutes!

The "dried FishFlakes" are people food or pet food at your local Chinese store? Do you think I could give my boys that if they aren't on a raw diet without it causing a stomach issue?
It's just that I'd love to be able to give them treats on a regular basis without stomach issues.

the dried Fishflakes are actually Peoplefood, they use in Soups, but the Owner when i asked for it said, for your Cat ? LOL I laughed so hard because he caught me . He said no worries lots of people feed that to their Cats, he feeds it to his dogs .
They are inexpenisve, try them out .

I've tried a few of those on the list.
Kitties have had natures variety in beef, chicken, lamb, venison, and duck. The company gets their rabbit from china so I stayed away from that. The 1 oz medallions were very convenient and defrosted quickly. My cats very much enjoy NV.
They also eat Primal. They've had salmon/beef, rabbit, pheasant, chicken/salmon, and turkey. They love this food as well.
They also love natures variety canned in duck, chicken, salmon, pork, turkey,venison, and lamb. It's the only canned food i feed them.
Lastly, they've only tried ziwipeak air dried for a couple of weeks but love it. Ziwipeak is pretty expensive though.
