too cold?

Everything I have read stresses keep your sphynx warm. So everytime I see a little shiver I grab the blankets thinking he is freezing to death . Am I being too obsessive about this? How bad is a little shivering? How do I know he is warm enough? He has a shirt but as long as he is wearing it he won't use the litterbox. Does them being cool make them more prone to getting colds? I keep thinking of him as being very fragile. I don' want to mess up and him get sick or hurt.

Lol - they are smart little boogers, a few throw blankets here and there work fine, when they are cold, they will fend for themselves with the resources you supply. Clothes should fit well, they need to be comfortable doing cat things, like feeding and using the box. Lots of members use socks with cut outs, do a search on the site for this. Good luck!

As, admin said, as long as they have blankets, a bed, they can get in or under,
they will stay warm. Be careful, about the clothing try to use snug fitting shirts
and Don't, leave the clothes on them, when you leave the house. They can hang themselves.

My house is at 70 degrees. I keep a heated throw blanket on my couch and a heating pad under their blankets in their bed. I leave them on all the time. They know where to go to get warm. Mine refuse to wear clothes.

I have always seen people worry too. But these are not stupid cats...if they are cold they burrow. I sit in the kitchen a lot and I know the tile floor is cold so I just throw down a couple of blankets on it and yep they burrow even there. You can also buy a heated bed if you are worried. We have one upstairs, but the cats like to be around us when we are home, so blankets all over are great.

I live with my in-laws' right now, and they don't really like to use a/c or heat, so it's hot in the summer and chilly in the winter. My kitten Zoa has a bunch of blankets and a microwaveable heating pad that I heat for her twice a day. She must stay plenty warm because she usually drags a blanket outside of her bed (which is where I keep the heat pad) and wraps herself up in the blanket like a kitten burrito. I always touch her ears and the tip of her tail to check if she's too cold, but she always seems warm. She's clever and good at turning herself into a burrito.

We live in Canada and it is plenty cold right now. Oliver doesn't really like wearing clothes, he will tolerate for short periods of time but doesn't not seem content with them on. He is clever enough to find the warm spots to hang out in. The sunny bedroom, the warmer office downstairs, blanket in the family room, sometimes just sitting in a heat register. I have a heating pad in a cat bed upstairs too wrapped in flannel. As long as your kitty has options then I'm sure they will figure it out! Oliver occasionally shivers too, or quakes lightly in my arms but really doesn't feel cold. Occasionally if door open he has chilly tail or ears but he finds his favourite human and warms up. I'm new to this but I think cats are pretty smart when it comes to comfort.

Well Hairry and Curly wear sweaters all winter they fit like a glove and they never seem to mind them. I have about a dozen fleece blankets around the house for them to sleep in and two electric throws that are on 12 hour timers. Our house has 16ft ceilings and hardwood/tile floors so to heat it cost too much to try to heat normally. My husband laughs because we are all like the cats in our house under blankets and electric throws in the winter. LOL

I think it depends on the cat. Merlin ia bad at tunneling in blankets and so he enjoys a shirt. The girls are master blanket tunneling ninjas and so I rarely put things on them. Lots of blankets around the house.

I'm a total worrier when it comes to Nipsey being cold. My husband thinks I'm crazy. Nipsey wears a shirt every night to bed. He has a personal little heater that almost always runs and he has a heating pad in his kitty cube and a heated bed haha! Also lots of blankets.

I wondered the same with Loki seeing as I am so new to the Sphynx breed and I am a total over worrier. They are definitely smart though! Loki burrows himself and makes the coolest looking little igloo comforter forts to stay warm in! I also have a sock sweater on him most of the time since that is all that fits him right now and only when we are home and he seems to do pretty well!
