Uh- oh, now what?

So I bought some raw beef cat food and fed it this at this mornings meal. Everyone at theirs no problem, save for Vito who picked at it for 2 mins and walked away. He was a hungry boy so I locked the other two away and put down a 1/2 pound of lamb. Well I got busy cleaning the house and needless to say when I turned around Vito had eaten the whole 1/2 pound. I guess he is not getting supper tonight. I also worry a little because I'm not sure how long that package was in the fridge thawing.

By not sure how long, you are concerned that it was too cold and not completely thawed? If so, I wouldn't worry. Oh wait, do you mean this lamb was for you and not for the kitties? *laughs even harder*

Raw meats for kitties should thaw in 24 hours from freezer into fridge. My understanding is that Sphynx will happily eat around half a pound in one sitting -- crazy, I know, but there it is.

As an aside, not all cats will like the same raw foods which can be a PITA. My secretary has two cats on raw food, and one loves chicken and the other beef, disliking beef and chicken respectively. This makes feeding multiple cats difficult unless you cater to each one's preferences.

Well, I'm concerned that it was in the fridge too long, but the pkg was vacuum sealed. Also that he ate an entire days food in one sitting...

So far the have all had and liked, lamb, rabbit, chicken, turkey, reindeer/elk, kangaroo. Vito did not like the duck much or the beef at all. As it is, I have to lock up Odin when putting groceries away, preparing food theirs AND mine, and when eating. That means me or the other cats eating. He inhales his food and looks for more. I swear he would eat till he burst. He is a scrawny little turn and I want him to fill out and gain weight, but I cannot feed him 2 pounds of food /day.

Crash! Guess what Odin just did? He dragged my new case of Mason jars off the counter and onto the floor. Why? Who knows, thankfully they survived.

How long was the lamb thawing in the fridge? It's good for 1-2 days once thawed.

It was in about 3 days because it seems to take 2 to thaw completely

Well, keep an eye on him.

Your fridge should be at about 4C or 40F for thawing. Do you know what it's set to?

Yea 40F is where I keep mine and 24 hrs is what it takes to dethaw a small container of frozen food, but 3 days doesn't spoil it.

But half a pound? Is he planning to hybernate for the winter or what? LOLOL

I give them each half a pound per day over 2 feedings. Vito wont be eating when I give Sera and Odin their 4 oz in a bit. Odin will be eating the beef Vito refused this am. I suppose I could pick up a thermometer for the fridge.

Oh 1/2 pound per day per cat sounds about right. I just don't know about letting Vito go 24 hrs ...I know he ate 2 meals in 1 but he is probably going to digest that and be hungry again......

Ooops...just watch to see if he gets sick or poops. As long as it was in the fridge for the time it should be fine, it was vacuumed sealed so should be fine.
