The last days I doubted if I should allready share the update on Toa or wait untill I had all the results to make sure I didn't panic for nothing. As you see I decided to share cause it's hurting me so much. I hope I panic and freak out for nothing and in a few days I can laugh about it.
My vet thinks Toa has dry/chronic FIP!
Monday March 30 it was the last day of the antibiotics for Toa. The diarrhea was gone, his poop was firm, he was gaining some weight. He still did have little energy but I just tought he stil was recovering from being not well form almost three months. So when the antibiotics stopped I was positive and hopefull everything was okay with Toa.
Fridaynight Toa did get diarrhea again. So saterdaymorning I went to the vet again. She examined Toa and looked very concerned.
In the last three months Toa did get 3 different types of antibiotics and 2 other meds against parasites. The vet did a "poop test". results: positive on the coronavirus that can cause FIP and there was too much of the E.coli bacteria. Bloodtest were done (nothing) and a x-ray (nothing but irritated darms).
The vet decided to do a new poop test and bloodtest. Yesterday it was sent to a clinic in Germany and a University Pet Hospital in the Netherlands. The blood will be examined on a lot of things but specially on Gamma Globulines (chronic protein inflammation ). If he has this, than he almost for sure has FIP.
If he has FIP it will be the dry/chronic type (translated directly from Dutch so I hope I use the correct terms for the 2 types, to be sure I explain the differences in types:
With the dry FIP it's difficult to get a diagnosis cause a cat with dry FIP doesn't have the "pot belly" full with fluid like a cat with wet FIP.
With wet FIP a cat dies in a few days or weeks. With dry FIP a cats dies within a few months.
Toa is on antibiotic again (different one) and on prednison. Started on saterday, the prednison yesterday. It's now tuesday here with no progress. Still diarrhea and having no energy. He plays five minutes a day.
I'll probably know the results for the bloodtest tommorrow or thursday. The results of the pooptest are expected on friday or monday.
I'm so worried. Hope I'm being a drama queen and Toa doesn't have FIP. After 3 months I know there's something wrong with my boy but please don't let it be something that can't be treated or cured!!
Hope you don't mind I share this uncertain diagnosis with all of you. @MelissaAlice : thanks so much for your support!
