I woke up this morning to Karen covered in blood... I think she pulled a suture or something. We are on our way to the ER vet. More positive thoughts needed for today!! I'll keep you updated- I'm feeling pretty upset today

Oh poor Karen! Sending lots of healing vibes and positives thoughts. And a big hug for you.

We just got back from the vet. Basically, when they extracted one of her top teeth it made a hole into her nasal cavity (kind of common when pulling a canine), Karen pulled the sutures out and the hole opened up and became infected quite quickly. She was actually gagging on the phlegm and yuck draining out, not the sutures themselves.

She got several injections (anti nausea, anti inflammatory & antiobiotic) they gave her fluids and we ran some bloodwork because her kidney felt funky during the exam. Her bloodwork was normal (yay) and hopefully she'll be feeling better in no time. She's already up and walking around.

I'm so glad I didn't wait and took her in to be seen❤️ I felt all your thoughts and prayers today, thank you!!!

I'm so frustrated tonight. She still can't eat but is starving. I've tried everything. She can't eat until things heal up a bit more because something's bothering her, the vet said all her sutures looked great and we're in place. So we wait and try again with food tomorrow.

The fluids helped perk her up but now she's back to feeling crappy, I have a bag of fluids here so at least I can do that tomorrow for her. I can alway take her to the ER clinic if she gets worse.

I just gave her pain meds and tucked her in for the night, they upped that to 3 times a day so at least she's comfortable.

Sad update on Karen...
We were back at the vet today because she still hadn't eaten. They took her in the back to get a good look at her mouth and found a large open tumor the length of her tongue. When they debrided her tongue it opened Pandora's box and made this tumor very angry and it pretty much exploded.

I wasn't able to make the decision I need to make at the clinic today because I was too upset and just wanted a few more days. I have pain meds, steroids and am praying for a miracle... Deep down I know the answer. She hasn't eaten in a week, I force fed her tonight and will try feeding her a bit more later.

Heartbroken and devestated can't even begins to describe how I feel

@Carmen Lucia I can't believe what I'm reading. I am so, so sad and crying...I can't even imagine how you feel. If it's not cancer, is there anything the vet can do at this point? :( :( :(

@Carmen Lucia I can't get this news out of my head since I read your post a bit earlier and already replied. Is there any way possible that it's not a tumor, but an infected tongue that possibly got knicked by the dental instruments last week and turned into a massive infection? I'm just having such a hard time accepting this is the end for Karen. :(

Please do not look at this as the end as mentioned earlier. Every day is a new day for her and for each of us. You are doing everything for this baby and making well thought out decisions and we are here for you along the way.

Obviously I'm hoping for the best, I had so many things flashing through my brain as the vet was talking to me... Followed by a sickening pit in my stomach that hasn't gone away.

They brought me into the back to see the tumor and I can't imagine it being anything but that. It was hard to look at and made me wince to imagine the pain Karen was feeling.

The tumor is on the right side of her tongue and her tongue is being pushed out the left side of the mouth. That made the Dr feel that there was more to this tumor than what we can see, that it is probably deeper and pushing her tongue out.

I'm praying with every ounce of my body that with the steroids and antibiotics we notice and improvement. That's all I can do right now. She has lost 1/2 lb since Saturday and unless a miracle happens I can't see her putting on weight easily. It's not fair to keep her alive if she's solely depending on me to force feed her. She's still so sweet and loving, she follows me around purring and I can't help but bawl my head off every time she comes to sit in my lap.

@Yoda mom both Dr's that were working today were in the back looking at Karen. Obviously if she shows improvement I'm not giving up and will take her to a specialist to see what they think. I just couldn't imagine putting her through that rough of a surgery. It's so tough being a good parent to our fur kids, they depend on us to make the right call. I just don't know what that is right now.

All I can do is hope that the steroids and antibiotics help and we see a change in this nasty thing. It looks like one big exploding cold sore all down the side of her tongue. So painful.

Both Dr's were awesome today and told me so many times that all Karen has known was love since being with us. We've shown her more love in 2 months than anyone has showed her in her whole life.

I believe that, with, all my heart.
I'm so sad for her and you. My heart just breaks.
The Lord, knows, what's best. I know he can heal her, if it's his will.
I will certainly pray for her and you. You are a great Mum, I've told you
before. You have done the very best for her.
Please keep us updated.
