We brought Karen home from the shelter about 3 weeks ago, here's an update:
She's almost done with her antibiotics but is still a bit snotty, no more sneezing though so that's an improvement. I'm not surprised she's still sick considering the condition of her when we picked her up. I wouldn't doubt some of that gook in her nasal cavity is from her horribly rotten teeth.
As I've said before she is 100% deaf but seems to always be watching to see what our next move is and adapts quickly. She's great with the kids and 2 of our dogs (Chihuahua and French Bulldog). For some reason she has it out for our Boston Terrier and wants to attack him. It's kind of comical actually since he's become kind of scared of her.
She HATES being groomed or handled excessively, we had one spat while cleaning her nasty nose and face that ended up with me having to take a trip to the Dr for antibiotics. I knew she scratched me but didn't realize she had bitten me so within 12 hours it was quite infected. I'm honestly surprised her tooth didn't break off in my thumb since they are so rotten!
As soon as she gets the clear from the Vet we'll be getting her in for a dental and I think that will be a life changing experience for her. I can't imagine how she feels with all those gross teeth.
That's all for now, thank you for all your advice in my endeavor with this sweet girl. We just love her. Although my husband thinks she should be wearing pants, she's too naked "back there". Haha! I added a few updated photos of her, she looks so much better!

I just got home from work and it looks like Karen took a few bites of the canned food I left out for her!! I'm so happy, I'm crying happy tears. I offered her more but she wasn't interested... I was able to force feed her a bit, she's fighting it less which helps immensely.
I'm supposed to go out of town this weekend with my girlfriends on an annual trip and I'm dreading leaving her. My husband is adamant that I go, he thinks he's more than capable of caring for her and keeping her going through the weekend. He's seriously the best, I won the lottery with that guy. I can't help but get a pit in my stomach when I think about leaving her. It's crucial she gets her steroid twice a day, especially with the progress she's made today. I just don't know what to do... I'll be 3 hours away, my husband said he'd pack up the kids to come get me if things went south with her. I think I should trust him and try to go relax for a few days.
I'll update more tonight if she eats for me without the force feeding.
I feel all your love and prayers, it's helped me stay strong❤️
So as I was sitting with Karen just now I randomly put out a can of her regular canned food instead of the high calorie stuff I've been force feeding her. If nothing else I thought the juice from the chicken chunks might entice her to eat. She picked at it a couple times, kept circling the bowl and then started eating! She ate the whole bowl. I can't even believe it. She's purring like crazy and getting it down ok for the most part. You can tell she's trying to figure out a new way to use her tongue and mouth but it seems to be working.
I can't believe it.

@GoldHazel I'm happy to report that since last night Karen ate another can of food at 6:30 this morning and another half can just now. We decided to switch her to 1/2 can every 3 or 4 hours instead of a whole can twice a day because the steroids are making her overly hungry and I don't want to make her sick since she hasn't eaten this much in a week. Last night she came downstairs and hung out for hours, jumping back and forth between me on the couch and my husband in his recliner wanting pets and cuddles, purring so loud! Her mouth started bleeding a bit while eating this morning, I'm not too worried though, she's having to figure out how to navigate it in her mouth with this tumor and I think she bit it.
Even though I know this is probably just borrowed time I'm totally fine with it. This is exactly the quality time I wanted to have with her, not me force feeding her and giving her fluids every few days. I couldn't be happier with how things are right now. Every day I get out of her is a blessing and we will treat it as such![]()

Tonight proved to be a little more challenging. Karen wasn't able to eat the wet food she ate last night (it's chunks of chicken and they're too big) and she hates all the other canned food that is more minced. It seems crazy that even in this state she chooses to be picky. She wanted kibble... Well great Karen, there is no way you can manage kibble. I'm soaking some now to make a mush and hopefully she can get it down somehow. I'll never underestimate her at this point, she's been surprising me everyday.
I did however, witness her with my own eyes drink water, which is something I hadn't seen her do yet. So that's promising.
