Karen is continuing to improve, shes ravenous now that she's on steroids. She's got a little belly on her and got stuck in the baby gate she was once able to pass through easily. It was pretty comical.
I need to start her on Lysine, do you guys have any recommendation?
I've only used one type of L-Lysine and I've gotten it at my vet's office as well as on the internet. It's made for cats because it has a fishy taste and smell to attract them. It's a powder and it comes with a measuring spoon in the jar:
She's doing so awesome!!! It's like we never had that little hiccup after her dental. She's eating and drinking great, gaining weight and back to her social self. She finishes with her daily steroid tomorrow... I'm so scared she'll go downhill.
Just try to stay positive. Hopefully, she's had enough medication.
To take care of this. Plus she's healthier, eating, and LOVED.
Keep us updated about her.
@Carmen Lucia , Karen is amazing! With all your love amd care she is healing and thriving!
Only positve thoughts and energy! she looks great! Give that amazing girl kisses and kisses from me!
Thanks for all your well wishes, thoughts and prayers. We feel ALL of them.
We had a birthday party for our 2 year old daughter yesterday and Karen was down visiting with everyone, she is so good with the kids, she loves them. Her being deaf probably helps since she can't hear how loud they are actually being while running around. It's so funny how people will say she is "so creepy and gross" but then 15 minutes later she's purring on their lap getting love. She usually sleeps upstairs with our older daughter but last night I heard our 2 year old on her baby monitor saying "No meow, no". I go into her room and there's Karen trying to curl up to sleep in Avery's crib. Haha! She's definitely feeling better and has the best personality.
As far as her diet goes, I have her on a can of food in the morning, water soaked kibble at lunch and then another meal (either kibble or canned) for dinner. She gets coconut oil on her breakfast and Lysine twice a day. Are there any other supplements I should be adding? Her skin, ears, eyes and nasal discharge have never looked better.
I have to ask why is she getting coconut oil to ingest? Never heard of anyone giving a sphynx coconut oil so I'm curious.
How are her bowels? You can always add FortiFlora to her food once a day (or split the little envelope of powder and give it to her twice a day or so). Cats seem to LOVE the taste and it helps them eat more at each meal. It's a probiotic to put back good bacteria into the gut.
I've experienced the same thing here with many people over the years coming over and seeing my kitties for the first time and being freaked out or saying not such nice things about their appearance. By the time they left my home, they were in awe of the breed. Even if they were never a "cat person"!
I give coconut oil to my dogs daily and had been using it to clean Karen's ears and such. She LOVES it and goes crazy when she smells it so I started putting a dab on her food to entice her eating during our rough times. I wasn't really familiar with using for a cat so did a little reading and it's known to be a huge benefit in oral health with their gums and tissue, not to mention the positive effects it has on their skin and coat (even though she's mostly hairless), plus its kind of fattening and she needs the calories. If nothing else, she thinks it's a treat and I reward her with it after she sits for her morning meds.
