Update on Zoa (URI)

As some of you know, Zoa wasn't feeling well and I took her to the vet on Friday, who confirmed a URI. She got a shot of convenia and I was instructed to put erythromycin ointment in her eyes 3x daily.

She is clearly feeling better - much more energetic, her breathing sounds great and she's keeping her eyes open more.

However, I noticed that she has a corneal ulcer in her left eye on the outer corner. At first I thought it was just mucus/boogers, but that is definitely not the case.

I want to throw up.

Here's a pic where you can see it in the outer corner of her left eye. This was taken last night, and it does not look worse today. My breeder said she would call me as soon as she can to discuss it, and I will be calling the vet tomorrow.

I braced my husband for the fact that she will have to go back to the vet for this. We're really broke because of my job situation and our impending move, and he was so supportive and told me not to worry about it and I feel so much better. I just really hope it can be treated quickly and that my baby will be okay.

I read that ulcers can be very painful but she is not really exhibiting any signs of pain that I can pick up on, and I don't even have to wrap her in a towel for her treatments anymore - she patiently waits for me to finish and then goes about her business. I'm hoping this means it's not too deep.

I won't be able to take her in until the evening but I will be sure to update when we get home (and probably lots before then too, knowing me).

She's currently purring her little head off and climbing all over me. I got a good look at her eye in the light and it definitely doesn't look worse than my pic from last night. I feel like it looks a little better but it's probably wishful thinking lol.

Just took a new pic. I apologize for her dirty face - keeping it clean is an exercise in futility. Her eyes water like a sprinkler every time she gets the ointment, and she got her last dose about an hour and a half ago. The vet told me not to wipe her face until it's almost time for her next dose.

She can open them much wider than this but she's napping on my lap and I had to annoy her with noisy things to get a pic lol.

Sleep? What's that?! Haha. She is such a sweet happy girl and she's definitely feeling better so that makes me feel better. I'm going to try my best to just enjoy her snuggles and purrs and to be positive about moving forward with the next course of action tomorrow.

I'm sure it's going to be an easy fix. Might take a few days to see an improvement. Poor baby. Hope all goes well tomorrow evening at your vet's office.

You are already putting medicine on her eye and maybe tomorrow the vet will add antibiotic drops or change the medicine. It's not like you haven't been doing anything for her. It will turn out to be ok. Just very frightening to look at her in the meantime, I'm sure. That's your baby.

I'm playing with Zoa right now and she is acting 100% normal! She is zooming around, climbing on my head, wrestling with her toys, leaping through the air and purring like crazy! If it weren't for her eye I'd think she was completely normal!

The vet didn't have any openings until 8:30 tomorrow morning. The receptionist spoke with the vet on staff this morning and they said to continue with her ointment and just keep an eye on it until tomorrow morning.

It didn't seem to be any worse this morning (it sure was crusty and gunky on the outside, though) and she still seems to be acting normal.

My husband and I have to go out of town from Thursday until Sunday night and that just kills me. I feel so horrible about it, but if I don't go I won't make money, and I need to make money to help Zoa get better. my mother-in-law will be here with her though (Zoa loves grandma!) and she told me not to worry, she'll give her medication and love and can get her to the vet if needed. I'm just praying that the stress of my absence won't make things worse.

That is great Grandma can stay with Zoa! Try not to stress yourself out (easier said than done I know) But I am sure Grandma will spoil your baby rotten and they will not be stressing. Glad the eye does not look worse today.

I did, but since there is only one vet on staff today and my husband won't be home until an hour before they close (I don't have a car or drive), it's unlikely that will be a possibility. I'm going to call again when he gets home just to make sure they can't fit me in.

I'm sure that Zoa will be fine. It's not like she is worse today and you have no medicine to use for her eye. Try not to be so stressed like I would be. LOL

I am trying but boy is it hard!! Lol. I thought I saw another abrasion/ulcer starting in her right eye and almost threw up. So I got out the tissues and saline and cleaned it up and it turned out to just be a booger. Phew!! Looks totally clear now and the left one does not appear to have progressed.

But hey, at least we solved the loose poo issue! LOL
