So Sissy's breeder and I have been writing e-mails to each other back and forth a few times a day as well as speaking on the telephone quite a number of times this week in particular since my husband went to her house last Monday to pick up Sissy and found out she was sick!

I begged my breeder to get Sissy off of the Clavamox and to put her on Zithromycin and Tobramycin eye drops as nose drops. She did and informed me that Sissy was doing better and she felt that Sissy absolutely was responding positively to the new medicines.

My husband and son left on Friday a.m. for Florida to try to pick up Sissy for a second time. Her pick up day is set for 8:00 a.m. tomorrow.

We picked up the anitibiotic and drops at my vet on Thursday so that everything will be here waiting for Sissy. I kitten-proofed my daughter's "old" bedroom for two days making sure that everything is perfect for Sissy's arrival tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. I have even raised the heat in that room and put out a heating pad on her bed too.

Last night I got an e-mail from my breeder saying that twice a day (a.m. and p.m.) she has been giving Sissy kitten replacement milk with a bit of Science Diet A/D canned food! Today I went out and got 12 cans of replacement milk at $10.00 a can! The canned food is an Rx and I can't get that until Monday, so I told the breeder to send some home with Sissy and my husband on Sunday a.m.

Now I go and call the breeder to confirm the time that my husband will be at her house tomorrow and she said that she almost cancelled her 2 1/2 week cruise because she felt that having her sitter come in 2X a day to do what she's got to do wouldn't be good enough now that ALL the kittens are sick! She has instead, arranged for a volunteer guy of the last 11 years at her vet's office to come and live in her house during her vacation.

She told me that the kittens went to the vet today to get Baytril injections, Idoxuridine eye drops, as well as staying on the Zithromycin antibiotic. In a cool air humidifier, her vet wants her to use the following instead of Vicks: 3 ml saline, 1.0 ml Gentamicin, and .5 Aminophylline right into the water inside the humidifier!

She said that her vet called it a virus that is very contagious (air-born) and that she knows that Sissy will be fine in my care, but she gave me the option of leaving Sissy where she is now as this guy will be staying at her house. Tomorrow he is coming over around 2:00 p.m. to get the routine down pat on caring for at least nine sick kittens (if not more)!

I called my husband and told him what I purchased today for Sissy INCLUDING a very high gate which I was going to put up in the hallway leading down to the bedroom where Sissy was going to be isolated. I do not want my three boys sniffing Sissy under the door and come down with this virus. I was even planning on sleeping in there with her taking very good care of her all night long.

I really told my husband that I think Sissy should stay where she is until she is better or at least much better than she is now. :( He wanted me to make a conference call with him to the breeder, so I did. He told the breeder that this is the second time he's gone down there to pick up Sissy and he's coming back empty-handed. He told her that maybe she should have gotten an antibiotic injection earlier in the week instead of waiting for today. He said that IF she is much better before my breeder comes back from her 2 1/2 week cruise, he wants to pick her up before she gets reinfected or gets a relapse and starts all over again with this illness. At first the breeder fought him on that suggestion, but my husband raised his voice a bit and she listened to his reasoning and agreed that IF Sissy is better, we can pick her up.

This has been so stressful on me. Twice I was so excited to get my baby girl home (in less than one week) and twice I have no baby girl to wear pink sweaters I made for her. :(

I hope I'm making the right decision in leaving Sissy there again. I just hope that this guy that's going to live in my breeder's house will be totally on top of all the sick kittens.

So, no Sissy tomorrow. :( :( :( :( :( :( I'm sooooo bummed.

Robin....I am so sorry you are upset again. But at 10 weeks Sissy is so young to go to a home. 12-14 weeks old is so much safer for the kitten and for you. You will not be missing out...let her mama cat care for her and she will come to you soon. Just wish you had advance notice on all of these issues.

HUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sooooooo sorry this happened again with Sissy :( Is your husband having to fly down to Florida each time or drive? That is such a long trip it would have been nice for the breeder to set the right expectations with you guys before him making the trip twice :(

HUGS and know you are doing the right thing for Sissy! I was sad we had to push the gotcha day for MiniE but knew it was right by her...

Praying hard for you right now, I know it's heartbreaking!!!!!

Oh no Robin I am so disappointed for you :(

Poor Sissy and her siblings. and that must be so frustrating for your husband as well as wasting time and money going to pick her up. What do you think of this virus that they have? is it something to worry about?

I know the breeder is trying to do what's best but she is messing you around a bit. She should be clearer with what's going on and tell you honestly when she is ready to be picked up so you guys don't keep having these disappointments.

I really hope that Sissy will get better soon and come home!! I feel really bad as you are such a good cat momma being so prepared and excited!! :( :( ::hugs::

In the mean time during your breeders cruise I hope this volunteer house sitter does a good job looking after your baby! I bet you could do a better job, but the stress of her travelling at the moment, and what Patti said about her age makes me think you have made the right decision.

You have no idea how I also wish there was advance notice! It's not like I'm not in touch with the breeder! Sissy's mama cat hasn't been wanting to nurse the kittens much at all lately!

Thank you, Assi. Yes, I was told that Sissy was responding positively to the new medications and that she isn't any worse! Hmm?

Thank you, Courtney, I hope I'm doing the right thing by leaving her there with the house sitter/cat sitter. :(
My husband flew down to Florida both times. Now we will have to do it again. I hope it's just one more time to get Sissy.
Sorry about pushing MiniE's Gotcha Day too. It's such a bummer. :(

Thank you. :) It certainly is a disappointment for me. :(

I don't know what to think of this virus. The breeder told me that her vet's office is treating so many cats for this virus. It's air-born and very contagious she said. The new eye drops that her vet prescribed for the kittens today says it's for herpes when I looked it up. I had never heard of this medication before. So when I last called my breeder, I begged her to be 100% honest with me and I asked her IF Sissy's virus is herpes. She swore that it is not. I just feel sick to my stomach at the thought of it being herpes or her not telling me the truth.

I certainly hope that the sitter takes excellent care of all the sick kittens. I just can't stand the thought of him not helping Sissy and the other 8 kittens get well.

Thank you again for everything.

Robin :)

After my husband got back home from his first trip on Monday, he told me something that BLEW ME AWAY! He said that when he got to the breeder's house Monday to pick up Sissy, that's when he learned that she was sick. After we decided to leave her there for another week, the breeder's husband said to my husband, "At least you can afford to come back down here in a week!" Who says that?

I am so so sorry that all this is happening :( I think since she is so young it's good that she's staying with her mom for a little longer but the minute she gets better, I would take her home so she doesn't become reintroduced to the sickness with the other kittens who are still sick. Is it like a cold? Or something more serious? It sounds like a lot for a kitten to be going through :( I'm a new sphynx owner so I don't know a whole much yet about how often they get sick when they're babies but is it a normal thing for them to get this when they're so young?

Hope she gets healthy soon and you can have her in your arms :) she's a lucky girl to have a new mom who has gone through all that preparing for her!

I'm so sorry :( I can't believe the breeder didn't warn you - TWICE! I'm the sort of person who would hate to get someone's hopes up or inconvenience them so severely... I can't imagine why a breeder would do that. Ugh. I really hope she gets well soon so she can come home!

Maybe you could ask her for the name of the virus? If she swears it's not herpes she must know what it is. Doesn't hurt to do a bit of research yourself :)

I can't believe what her husband said - so what if you can afford? doesn't change the fact that they are costing you a whole load more money due to all this! and very insensitive, if I was him, I would be apologizing for the inconvenience.

Little Sissy will be worth it Robin I'm sure, good things come to those who wait!! Try not to be disheartened. Make sure the breeder/sitter are 100% sure next time!!! you know what they say, 3rd time lucky :)

Ugh this sucks I'm so sorry for you :( I hope they get better asap and that this vet guy is taking really good care of them. I feel strange to ask but is she willed to reduce the price a bit? I mean she let your husband go down to florida twice not only once and had the guts after the first time to say ,, at least you can afford it..'' Srsly this would offend me pretty bad. It's kinda harsh.. I can't imagine how disapointed you are but everything happens for a reason and everything will be good at the end.

Thank you for your kind words, Joanna. :)
The breeder has been calling the illness a cold all week, but today after taking them to her vet for additional medications and the antibiotic injection, her vet called it a virus!
It is normal for kittens to get a little cold, but this didn't happen to my first two sphynx boys. My third one (all from the same breeder) was sick when I picked him up also. As a matter of fact, I didn't know it until just before I went to get him! I took him anyway after speaking to my vet on the phone long distance as I was already in Florida to get him. My vet felt it was ok for me to get him knowing it was just a little cold. His nose was so stuffed that I noticed in the airport on the way home he kept on opening his mouth to breathe. He landed up infecting my other two boys and they were sick from February until the spring when the weather got warmer! I CANNOT ever go through that again. I was totally beside myself. I honestly thought I was going to lose at least one of them. :(

I am the same way, why get someone's hopes up or inconvenience them? I just don't get it either. This is my fourth sphynx from this breeder. I am always in touch with her and I really adore her and her husband. She tells me that she loves me and knows that I'm the best possible mama to these babies. So why put me through this heartache and expense? :(

Thank you again for your words to me. :)
I know that I can't do "research" myself! When Simon was so sick and then got Liam and Grayson so sick in February until the springtime, I felt like I wasn't getting answers so I called the breeder's vet's office for answers. They wouldn't give me any answers, of course, and had my breeder call me. She said that her vet's office has strict instructions not to give out any information! I know that I won't get any answers by asking her. :(
I know, I can't believe what her husband said to my husband about being able to afford to come back to Florida in less than a week! :(
LOL, I always say that "Good things come to those who wait!" I hope it's true in this situation. :)

Robin :)

I am supposed to get this guys cell number so that I can check on Sissy's progress. It would destroy me if I couldn't know anything about her condition in the next 2 1/2 weeks while my breeder is away.
I am sure that they are not going to reduce the price of the balance that is left on Sissy.
Yes, it was kind of harsh saying to my husband that at least he can afford to come back to get Sissy next week! Things certainly do happen for a reason, I agree. I just hope that it's all worth it in the end and I get Sissy here happy and healthy and not risk my boys catching anything from her. It's just so stressful. So much hope, so much preparing, etc.

Robin :)
