upper respiratory infection?

Yesterday Dante started sneezing a lot more than normal and I didn't think much of it, since I had brought home a dresser and it kinda smelled like....well like an old lady  So I thought that could have been messing with his nose but today its just as bad and he has slept ALL day long just curled up next to me. My boyfriend is playing with him right now and he doesn't seem too interested, just watching the laser, no chasing.... He is however eating and drinking just fine.
Looked up symptoms and it kinda seemed like an upper respiratory infection  I would make an appointment for him ASAP but I'm getting Murphy Saturday and he has an appointment next Monday the 5th. Dante's health is priceless to me but if it would be possible to turn 2 vet trips into 1, of course I would love to not spend an extra $100+

So my question is; what do you think he has? and can I wait till monday to take him or should I make an appointment immediately?

Thanks guys! He's got me worried:Woo:

If he is still eating and drinking, and doesnt have a high fever, then you are probably ok to wait.
Feeding canned food, if you dont allready, would be good to keep him hydrated.
Is he sneezing any snot?

I would see how it is tomorrow and make a determination. It could be some sort of allergy to something in the dresser? Is he shooting boogers all over the place or is it just sneezing at this point?

Here's my URI experience:

Draco had a persistent upper respiratory issue for a long while. Initially, it started as sneezing, then went to snorting and sneezing, then to snorting, sneezing and projectile snotting all over the place, LOL. I still find spots here and there, when we do in-depth house cleaning, lol. The stuff is like glue. Anyway, the vet initially gave amoxicillin, which didn't work one bit, after which she tried some other amoxicillin-based antibiotic of which the name escapes me at this point...it's been a long day. That didn't work either. I did some research on here and a few members had success with azithromycin, which knocked it out in a little over a week. I, by no means am a vet, but figured I would share my experience with you as a comparison in hopefully making a determination as to how severe it is at this point. My other thought would be that if it's something contagious, I wouldn't want the other to catch it. Just my 2 cents.

I do feed him wet and dry, so I'll continue with the wet. When he sneezes its kind of like a mist, no snot rockets, they seem like normal sneezes just more frequent. I'm also doubling up on lysine. Thank you so much for the help! I'll let you know if anything change before Monday.

Ihave herd good things about azithromycin also and zmax is what our shelter uses you only have to use it twice like a week apart and it knocks it rite out of them and being cats hate meds and it works fast thats awsome so ask about zmax at the vets.

So I ended up called the vet and she suggested we come in just incase whatever dante has is contagious, wouldn't want Murphy to get sick also. Of course Date acts 100% normal when we're there. No sneezing, coughing, runny eyes.....nothing! but she gives me Clavamox Drops 15 ML and Hydroxyzine HCL 10 ML tablets just because he was SO sick the night before. She mentioned that they seem to get worse as the night goes on, why is that? Because sure enough again last night he looked so miserably sick. I'm hoping theses meds kick in soon. poor guy :(

ohh but it gets worse....Dante has a heart murmur
she didn't seem too worried about it but of course I am very alarmed. She heard it with her stethoscope so that means it's at least a 3 out of 6, right?
I contacted my breeder and her husband (who is a vet) called me right away with questions of concern. He said to wait till his 1 year shots and check on it then, sometimes they go away, sometimes they don't. But all of their cats are scanned for HCM so he was very alarmed by this information.

Anyone with experience with a heart murmur, and how does it effect your loved one? I can't imagine something happening to Dante...it would break my heart into pieces

Sorry to hear about his illness and murmur. I hope he feels better soon! Murmurs can be heard at any grade. Some do go away with time and some can be caused by stress as well. Just being sick Going to the vet (especially if there were loud barking dogs etc) can cause a stress murmur. I would have it rechecked and if it is still there you can always have an ultrasound done to check for any abnormalities in structure and check for hcm just to be on the safe side. Hope it turns out to be just stress and hope he starts feeling better before the baby gets home! Good luck!!!

I agree with what was said above too. Moses had one as a kitten that was told to me to be pretty significant, and then after 1 yr of age, once he grew into himself and got used to traveling around and tonthe vet, it disappeared as he got older, and then disappeared totally. As said, I would have him rechecked as he grows and when he is not sick and probably dehydrated due to his illness and go from there!

I can't thank you all enough for the encouraging words! Dante is almost all better today, has all of his energy back and just has watery eyes and some boogies. YUCK!
Murphy comes home tonight, but the boys won't get to meet until Monday (Murphy's vet visit) or later depending if Dante has made a full recovery.

I won't lie i'm kinda nervous about picking up Murphy. I hope he will have a safe flight and keep stress to a minimal, I'm getting to the airport an hour before his flight is scheduled to land just to make sure everything falls into place. I'll post pictures tomorrow!

Been at the airport for almost an hour. Murphy's flight has landed just waiting for him to come through the door. So many butterflies in my stomach, I can't wait to meet him :)

I'm so excited for you! Hope all went well with his travels. And I'm glad to hear Dante's doing better, too. It's scary to hear about a murmur, but great advice was given earlier about them. ::HUGS::

Murphy is safe with me now and we're on our way home! He sat in my lap for a bit then crawled back into his carrier. He seems pretty nervous but is staying curled up in his carrier. Can't wait to see him more when I get home. Pictures to come tomorrow :)
