That's such great news!!! Sounds like a very trying experience for you both, but so glad that things turned out the way that they did. Hope for a speedy recovery for Luigi!

Oh my goodness Joey i cant imagine how you & your family are feeling right now !!! Hugs love & prayers sent to your house from ours, i cant believe how much luigi has been through the poor little fella :( Im so happy for you that the surgery to unblock him was succesful & the vet was prepared to try again & save you the huge vets bill, many vets would of gone through with the second option seeing $$, luckily you have a honest vet who clearly puts his patients & clients before his bank balance !!! I cant imagine how Luigi is feeling hopefully hes on the road to recovery now & i think you was right to but the thought of your new kitten on hold, i dont think luigi would appreciate the busy-ness of a playful kitten right now !! Please keep us updated on sunday/monday how our little mate is doing, hes definatley in the best hands where he is, an important lesson has been learned to me following Luigi's story, im definatly getting Blue insured, you really do not know whats around the corner, lots & lots of love to you all (& sorry for the essay i seemed to of wrote !!!) Lisa & Blue xxx

Thank you Lisa! My vet is truly an angel.... All he sees is cats. I began using him after researching luigis feline hyperesthesia to learn that his articles on the topic have been published many times.. He is also Martha Stewarts Cats Doctor.. He is truly incredible and I am very blessed to have met him.

Wow. I had to read this twice. The good thing is he might never have another blockage due to the nature of what was blocking it. But WTH how did that happen...so odd. I am so happy you pushed the issue of trying one more time. Now let's hope tomorrow is the start of real healing. Lair Prayers will continue.

Luigi update!

Vet called...three times yesterday lol

I quote...."Luigi is wide awake, bright eyed and".... Then he stopped I knew he was going to say bushy tailed but he caught himself hahaha.

He said he is doing exceptional, his blood work is excellent, his kidneys are recovered, he's eating his royal canin urinary SO like a pig, he has not tried to remove his catheter or IV..and he hits anyone next to his cage with his paw (that's Luigi for you).

I am sooooo happy!

I laughed too... In fact I'm going to tease him about it when I see him haha.

Yes, he is optimistic that he will be release Monday night.

I already bought a new outfit for him to come home in... It was such an emergency when he came in they cut his shirt off.. He's there naked now :-/

Luigi Update...

Luigi had a major setback today. While en route to pick him up, the vet called that he was blocked again--and they were going to have to do another emergency catheterization. When I got there, just as they were going to give him anesthesia, they were able to drain his bladder. They now think it's a mechanical blockage. Meaning that his bladder and urethra aren't in sync and he is having severe urethral spasms so they're treating him with Valium, anti inflammatory medication, and he will be spending another night in the hospital. The best thing that could happen is he urinates over night and then he may come home tomorrow.

Luigi update....

It was urineless night. Not good!

Luigi will be having a perineal urethrostomy today, also known as a feline sex change operation to widen his urethral opening.

So the surgery is scheduled for 7pm tonight, they're waiting for some of the Valium to metabolize prior to anesthetizing him.
