Bless his little heart. He's been through so much. But, sounds like
everything is going good now. Wonderful. So happy for him and you.
Prayers, he will continue to heal and do great.

Luigi update....

Just a quick update on Luigi.
He's doing great! The contusions near his incision are returning back to his skin color.. I'd say about 20-30% better. Very good because seeing all these black & blues really make me cringe.

His appetite is increasing. He is so smart, because of the E Collar restricting his range of motion he has began to use the edge of it to scratch his incision. The little devil that he is....

Last night was his first night back in bed with me... It felt soooooooo good to have my buddy back, we both slept like bears in hibernation.

This morning he woke up and visited his friend "buddy" the mourning dove that comes to my window every morning.

I held off on his pain med this morning because he seems to be pain free and he's taking a nap right now. I may give it to him if he wakes up and continues to scratch with his E Collar as I am certain he is itchy. Also, I want him to relax as much as possible while I am getting ready for a 10 day business trip :(

I am however leaving an ipad home for luigis grandparents to let him FaceTime me :)

I honesty can't thank you all enough for your caring thoughtful heartfelt warm wishes of recovery. It's truly amazing, I hope I am loved just half as much as Luigi... Everyone from my colleagues, friends, family and their colleagues have been beyond concerned and asking about him every hour of the day. I'm starting to get jealous.... LOL I'm kidding!

I'll have an update for everyone when I get home from my trip!

Ahhh nothing like getting your boy back in bed with you. So happy he is doing well. Totally understand wanting to FT while you are away to just check in on him. You will stress less being able to see him. I hope you have a great trip...safe travels.

Safe travels and prayers for Luigis healthy, fast healing. That bruising makes me cringe too! Yikes, poor guy.

Unfortunately I have some terrible news :(

This past weekend Luigi started to vomit, as some of you know, he's on Prozac for his feline hyperesthesia, which in the past a handful of times made him nauseas if he took it too soon before his morning meal... So I thought this was the case and didn't think much about it. Fast forward to that evening he began frequent trips to his literbox. I then got ready for bed and Luigi was no where to be found... Which to be honest was the worst symptom of all... Me in bed without him is like watching the pope go into a strip club... It just doesn't happen!

I begin to look for him and I find him laying in his literbox. He looked so sad I couldn't look and I immediately knew something was terribly wrong. I rush him to the vet....

His bladder was obstructed and he was moments away from kidney failure. Resulted in an emergency catheterization, and the vet spent over 45 minutes trying to unblock him. He is still in the hospital as I pace my house missing him staring at his toys and moments away from weeping. They suspect that the catheter will be removed tomorrow or Wednesday and home Thursday or Friday.

So I had a very tough decision to make after yet another hefty hefty vet bill...with potentially a 3-4,000 surgery around the corner.... I asked myself is now the right time to get a kitten when I may need to very shortly invest a lot more money into my hairless son... And I ultimately decided it's not.

Not to say in the future when Luigi is home and well, it won't happen... Just now isn't the time.

Please pray for Luigi :(
I send my full prayers out to you and Luigi. Romeo also suffers from urinary crystals which now looks like he will stay on his Hill's Prescription C/D Bladder health food for the rest of his life. I have asked twice if he still needed to be on since the last urine tests came back crystal free and they have said yes he must stay on it to prevent them from forming again and causing a blockage. I hope Luigi makes a full recovery and gets well soon. Hang in there and stay strong not only for yourself but for Luigi also. Please let me know how he does. Hugs

Oh bless his heart, that bruising looks bad. I know he has to be
sore. Hate he had to go through this, but, grateful there was a
surgery to take of him. Have a safe trip. Good to hear he's doing better.

Luigi Update!!!

I am home! Luigi's black & blues are completely gone! His incision looks clean and flesh toned, so there is no sign of infection (it helps that his grandma is a nurse practitioner LOL).

During my trip, he urinated successfully every day, he has been devouring his Royal Canin Urinary SO without problem.

He is acting like himself again, crazy as ever! He is again obsessed with his toy F-I-S-H (I have to spell it, otherwise he goes crazy and will start hockey pucking it under the couch and its too early to start that game right now LOL).

The one thing that does concern me a bit--and I think it is ok, because he is having regular urine streams... is that he seems to not be drinking. I am guessing it can be that he is on a wet only diet now, but I have yet to see him drink water.

So yesterday I tried:

-Boiling shrimp in water, cooling the water and offering it to him
-I went out and bought a cat water fountain bowl (but he just sits next to it, like he's on vacation in Niagara Falls)
-Wetting the inside of his E Collar and letting him lick the drops of water
-Adding water to his wet food (he doesn't eat it)
-Letting him play with ice cubes
-giving him extra salty bonito
-Offering him water in a syringe and spoon (nothing LOL)
-Putting 5 bowls of water around my apartment

You see how stubborn this jerk is?! He is probably drinking like a fish while I am asleep....

Anyway.. Stitches come out Tuesday 3pm :)

Heres a photo of him on a little E Collar break...

We noticed that after switching from kibble to a wet only food (in our case raw) the boys barely drink. Only on the rare occasion after they are sick.

As long as it's always there and he knows where to find it I'm sure he'll drink when he is thirsty :)

They drink a lot less on wet food, but they get more water overall, this is normal. Looks like he's making a great recovery.

It sounds like you are doing a lot to entice him to drink but if you want more ideas, I had to entice a sick cat to drink before and here are some of the things that I tried:
1. Put some tuna water or sardine water in his water bowl.
2. Offer a little bit of milk....not too much because a lot of cats are lactose intolerant so you have to feel him out.
3. There is a nutritional supplement for cats that I found in my regular pet store....it came in a can and looked a lot like milk, but it was specifically for cats. It was complete nutrition, not just hydration, but I wanted to mention it.

The best thing you can do is keep him on a wet food diet. It may not even have to be a rx diet, just a good wet food. You can check label for the water content, protein, fat, carbs, etc. to try to match the profile BUT with better ingredients (like real meat instead of meat meal, no corn, no by-products). Best of luck to you and the little guy!

I am sure he's drinking... There's no way a cat his size could produce as much urine as a race horse like he has been doing without a little sip here and there hahaha.

Luigi actually LOVES vanilla ice cream.. That and watermelon are his two favorite human foods. So I made "Cat Cream"... Which is simply taking Cat Sip (a lactose free cat milk) and I made ice cream with it.. He then crunched on some watermelon. I'm sure he is ok.... Lol

Luigi update!

He had his one month checkup yesterday everything looks great! He's urinating normally all the time.

I decided to introduce royal canin urinary SO dry into his diet because honestly the wet only Rx food is beyond expensive in the quantities he has been eating. He also never seemed to be satisfied on wet only. He loves the new dry food!
