Hi all, jax is now a year and a half old. Today we noticed he was peeing small amounts and making trips to litter box trying to go but unable. The vet hospital wasnt able to obtain a urine sample but saw on ultrasound there was a lot of debri which may mean some sort of crystals. Has anyone experienced this with a young sphynx under 2 yrs of age? Im nervous because when i asked if the prognosis is good with this issue she gave a wierd reaction and said it has to be closely monitored for life. She gave me phenoxymine and samples of royal canin urinary good and science diet and told me to switch his food. Sry this is so long im a worried mommy. Anyone who has this issue pls share any info thank u

Our one girl is on prescriptive urinary food. Once we put her on it, she never had another infection/crystals. It seems to more common in males than females. I don’t think she was trying to scare you, but with urinary issues, if not caught quickly, can be very serious.

@catzzmeow thank u for the response. Can i ask what brand of food u put her on? I got samples of royal canin and science diet. I will switch him to rx food since it should improve the condition. Im just really bummed about the ingredients, since it doesnt seem as nutritious as the wellness complete health i had him on

She is on Hills c/d stress wet and c/d dry. We tried a couple of others, but she seemed to love this one. We were bummed too about the ingredients. We had her on a grainfree diet before, but she kept getting infections. We don’t even give her treats any longer...just her prescriptive food.

With 4 cats it is hard. The 3 others are on grainfree wet. So we watch her like a hawk because if she finishes first she tries to nudge her way into the others’ bowls lol.

Last thing you need is a blockage which can quickly lead to kidney failure. So just be thankful you know of the issue and can keep your baby healthier. Not sure if you have a water fountains not. If not you might look into getting one as many find it promotes them wanting to drink more which is great for helping reduce crystals as well.

My boy had the urinalysis test done by "cystiocentesis " at the vet.
He got antibitoics and he refused all the "vet " sold prescription foods dry or wet -
I was so worried he would have issues for life .

It has been years - he never has had another episode of urninary problems .

Simce he refused all the vet food I tired to find something store bought .

He eats proplan urinary focus canned food ( a 1/3 of a can every few days he refused to eat it daily so weird )

And Nutrisource cat and kitten food (no recalls and I like it is low ash )
I look for food not high in magnesium , phosphurus ratio.

Kudos to you for getting Jax I'm for early intervention -
Urinrary problems in male costs can be serious if they get s blockage .

Keep us updated .
My boys test had crystals and some traces of blood shown by the cystiocentesis UA

It's been 4 hrs and no other incidents

Ps - with the fountain be sure to take it apart every few days and even the motor apart and clean all pieces - I would soak motor parts I'm white vinegar I na cup - see the unseen gunk thst comes off

I have switched to putting water in a small raised dog dish with double bowls
And a 6 inch Corningware bowl . I put it about 5 feet from the food dishes.
it seems they drink more water when I placed the water away from their food dishes .

All paws crossed for Jax
Please keep us updated !

Urinary Health Formula in Gravy - Wet Cat Food - FOCUS - Purina® Pro Plan® | Purina® Pro Plan®

@Yoda mom @Catzzzmeow just got back from vet there were no crystals in the urine. But an increased amt of red blood cells. The diagnosis was cystitis. She said i could leave him on his normal food but cut out the dry portion. I told her we tried a sample of royal canin urinary food today and she then said to continue that for 2 wks and go for recheck. If all is good then we can go back to wellness food. Question: i used to feed one 3oz can a day in conjunction with almost a cup of dry. Now that i cut out dry i need to increase the wet. How much wet food do u guys feed per day? Including size of cans

I am so glad we have this to chat with other naked mommas. I am going through this same thing with my baby. For the past 3 months my 8 month old female has done the same thing around 30 days in between (this past week was is the 3rd time) she was in and out of the little box and straining to pee. Notice blood in urine each time and freaked out. They diagnosed her with feline idiopathic cystitis and put her on Royal Canin urinary and calm and clavomox again. I’m frustrated that there’s no answer why this is happening except she could be stressed and that could make her flare up. If you search Feline idiopathic cystitis from stress you can read all the responds from my questions. Please let me know if you find out anything for your little guy or if they come up with a solution. :)

I know the worrying gets rough. I am also glad to have this community. Im feeling optimistic because ever since i switched jax to an all wet diet and threw out the dry food things have been better. I only gave 2 cans of the royal canin rx and then started instinct wet food. He goes back to the vet next week to retest the urine. I dont know if u give your girl any dry but it seems its best not to if possible

We tried a few urinary foods. We now are using Hills c/d stress food.. I was very surprised they have stress specific food now. We have not have any infections/crystals since we started her on this well over a year ago...knock on wood.

I keep dry out all day and feed her wet 3 times a day (2 -3oz cans). She has a water fountain that she drinks a lot from. The vet sent off her urine to do more testing and she is not dehydrated at all. It’s such a bizarre thing. All they can tell me is that they think she could be stressed. I don’t know how she could be stressed except the 5 hours she is left home alone during the week. I am thinking of adopting another one to keep her company. I have two teenagers that maul her when they get home from school so she gets enough love for sure. This is my first kitty ever and I picked a very picky one :). I got her in June and we have been to the vet 11 times $3000 later. We started with a regular vet but after first visit didn’t feel comfortable taking her there so we go to a place that only sees cats. I just hope we are close and out growing all this. We love her and she has brought so much laughter to our home. Please let me know what your vet says after you go. Good luck with him ❤️

Thanks i will let u know. It sounds like u are doing everything right with your baby. And u are feeding more wet food than i was when jax was on wet/dry so that is a good thing. Hopefully your girl is close to outgrowing this issue whether its stress or not. I have heard ppl talk about feliway plugs for stress. Positive vibes!

My 4 month old boy has been at the vet for 2 days with a serious blockage. Its been very expensive and heartbreaking. The vet says it's extremely unusual for a cat of his age to have this happen and im very scared it will happen again. Has anyone heard of this at such a young age? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I cant say I recall so young, yes blockages can happen. Your vet might prescribe prescription food. Are you feeding wet and dry food?
