Hi. I have a new baby that came from Spain. She is 4 months old. Her vaccinations were not clear on her animal passport she came with. Yesterday she had the Purvex 3. (Feline Rhinotracheitis-Calici-Panleukopenia Vaccine). She seemed fine last night. Today she is very swollen around her neck. Not just a lump at the injection site. She does not have any swelling in her face or lips, and does not have and rash or breathing problems. I can tell it is a bit tender/ uncomfortable. She did eat -- but her appetite is not her usual. She is playing a bit, but is a little more sleepy than usual.

Should I be concerned? Has anyone had a similar experience? It does not look like it is getting worse. If it is still as swollen , I will take her to the vet Monday. But just wanted to get some thoughts. Thank you!

Just call the vet and ask them what to watch for... Is this her second set of vaccines that she has received? If so, how far apart in time were they?

I agree to ask your vet for some guidance. After any vaccine our vet says they can be quiet for a day or 2...so don't freak about that part. I would inquire about the swelling just so you know what to be concerned over. Keep us in the loop. Positive thoughts sent.

Purrs and peace,

You should call your vets even ask for a nurse check (in my vets that's free) also they need to know that she obviously is allergic to something in the vaccine so it goes on her notes for next time xx

Hi. Thank you all...she is doing great today! The swelling was very strange - clearly a reaction to the vaccine. On Sunday it had moved down to her lower neck and chest. She almost looked like a yak of some sort. I was concerned a bit, although she was playing and eating. I was planning on taking her to the vet today. When I woke up her swelling was WAY down. By this evening she is completely normal and has her appetite back!

So all it good. Thank you for your replies and help!

You should have the vet note in her records that she had a reaction. That way they can either premedicate her for her next shots or use a different one.

I'm glad to hear that everything is fine now. You still should speak to your vet about the reaction. It needs to be noted in her chart as well.

If everyone's cat got a similar reaction to this vaccine and they never called their vet to inquire about it, the vets would not know and they wouldn't be able to let the drug company know. Sometimes there could be something wrong with medicines too (not that I think this is the case), but we need to get the word out.

Again, I'm glad everything seems to be fine now. :)
