I've been told by a few people that I need to find a vet that specializes in Sphynx cats but I'm not sure how to find that, can anyone local to NYC recommend a Sphynx specialty vet? Thanks!

@sibilsuss , hugs n head smooches , surely members will chime in.

sharing, I live in a small FL town, no sphynx specific vets ,however I asked my vet how many sphynx treated and she is very familiar with the breed, HCM testing etc and can have a cardiologist come to the office for scans. turns out she does have a few sphynx clients , I was surprised in this small town.

you can ask your vet some specific questions of experience with sphynx.
My vet will call and do consults with cardiologist no charge and send xrays over to cardiologist office for the cardiologist to review for a little extra for the cardio xray report.

when I had my first sphynx over a decade ago, I was one of her first sphynx clients. (turned out the clinic owner has a sphynx, who knew ).

hug n positive vibe head smooches. My Tobylove being treated by my vet for HCM, CHF, etc

The vet I go to now hasn't been great and last time I took her in she came home with ear mites so I would like to find someplace new anyway but I just have heard that it should be a Sphynx specialist I just don't know if that really exists I also would like to have her screened for heart problems and I don't trust the current vet to even know what to look for :(

@sibilsuss , kudos to you for going wit your gut to find a new vet. important to have a good working relationship with your vet. I tagged @tuffysmommy in NYC for her vet info, you can ask where she takes hers to scan. members will surely chime in.
if it turns out her vet is too far away, I would get their number and call and see who they recommend closer to you as an option, vets often have colleagues they know

i have a bevy of vets for all my babies based on their particular needs. My first sphynx was given to me by a vet in LI who delivered her so she was her vet—a mere 2-2-1/2 hours away. It is very far from Staten Island where i live. She recommended someone she knew of on SI. When my sphynx was directed toward cardiology, we took her to Garden State Veterinary Specialists. I have a friend who has returned from Florida and was everyone’s vet before he left, works in Brooklyn and soon SI again. My furry with arthritis goes to Red Bank, NJ for rehab (PT) medicine. I now have 5 yr old sphynx and two 15 year old furries. I have gone in an emergency to Schwartzman in Manhattan as well. If any of these places are a reasonable distance for you or you are just plain interested, message me and i will be more specific.:) we have been exceedingly lucky with our nakies (and others as well).

@tuffysmommy Right now I am just looking for a general vet for checkups and random issues, I would like to get her heart checked out because I'm not sure if she's been screened for HCM. ThankS!
