Virus!

I need a little advice if anyone has any. I went to see my new kittens today (due to take them next week) and the breeder tells me that two of her cats have a virus. One being the chocolate tortie that is mine. She says that the other cats are clear and have been given preventative antibiotics. Apparently the cats will be ok but the virus can 'shed' so to give lysine. What could the virus be? I'm worried, does it all sound legitimate. When I googled lysine, FIV came up and herpes :-( Does Lysine help with the shedding of all viruses or are we definitely talking FIV?
Thanks in advance

I would give the breeder a call and ask for the name of the specific virus. It could have been a simple URI. An upper respiratory infection is not uncommon when they are a kitten. You will feel better knowing. The fact she shared the info is good and so far not trying to hide anything.

Lysine boosts their immune system a lot of members give it to their cats daily to boost immune. It's not only given to those illness of necessarily sick cat as said many give it to their cat as preventative . Why not ask breeder what virus they have? I'm sure if on antibiotics they will be fine :)

Maybe, I will ask her by email. Do they shed all virus' I know she's really upset as it's come from a new queen. She seems to think that she can't breed her now which is what made me think of FIV. Thanks for answering me. All my excitement has been turned upside down a bit today :(

Definitely get the details before you get a baby. If she is afraid to breed the queen again that is a concern...but for now try not to panic. Get the name of it and give your vet a call for their opinion.

Vets notes give this diagnosis:

Feline Chlamydophila

Feline Chlamydophila (formerly known as Chlamydia) mainly causes conjunctivitis in the cat. Conjunctivitis may be defined as the inflammation of the delicate membranes or conjunctiva that cover the inner surface of the eyelids and over the white part of the eye (the sclera). However, this infectious organism is not responsible for the full range of signs associated with cat 'flu.

Chlamydophila conjunctivitis

Thank you for replying, in all fairness the breeder is keeping the kitten until healthy and vet checked, i'm only taking her once well. I was more concerned that it would be something life limiting or an insurance nightmare.

Glad your breeder has been open and will hold the kittens until all is clear. You should then be ready for Gotcha Day..
