because his mom was totally irresponsible last night. I finished cooking a pork roast last night at 3 am and shredded it up and put it in the fridge. Then I took Vito and Odin and we went to bed. At 6 am I let Vito out of the bedroom to have his breakfast and so Odin could eat his. They are never together unsupervised and they eat separately. Vito then scratched at the bedroom door a little later and I let him in and we went back to bed. Then I got up at 3 pm to get ready for my 12 hr night shift and started to get my lunch ready. I quickly realized that I hadn't thrown out the strings from the roast and one was missing!!!!

I am sooooooo pissed at myself. I cannot believe I forgot to clean up something like that. I know better. I am 99% sure Vito ate it because I cannot find it anywhere, I even went through the trash. I dont think Odin got at it as I have yet to see him on the kitchen counter and he was not out of the bedroom unsupervised at all. I panicked. I called my dad (a former vet). He said hopefully it will come up as a hairball...LMAO DAD! My cats dont have hair!! (He lives on the other side of the country and has never met them). Then he asked if I had any Petromalt. Again, Dad, they have no hair!!!! He said because it is not like sewing thread it should pass.

I called my Vet, I know what to watch for but I was so upset. They said what to watch for, no new info there. Called my Vet tech to see if Vito could sleep over with her, but she is looking after someone elses dog so she couldn't. My best friend was too sick to come and stay and her house is not safe for kitties, too much to get into.

Neighbour across the hall wasnt home, and Im freaking out. Vito needs supervision and I CANNOT MISS WORK!!! Call emerg clinic, they said I would need to have both cats examined and then admitted totalling $400 for one night nevermind tomorrow night. I need to save the money for potential emerg surg....Still freaking out.

I call my friend Alicia, no answer. Im going to be late to work.....What am I going to do?!! So I called my friend Ely who works in the same building as me, but works M-F days. I dropped Vito off there and he was immediately bombarded my her Shih Tzu and 6 month old Terrier pup who has never seen a cat. He cuddled with her on the couch and ate his supper about 3 hours early. He didn't eat with gusto or like he was starving as he usually does, but who could blame him? Hes in a strange place with strange dogs. He will sleep in their living room as she doesnt want him to share her bed, her dogs dont either.

Then my friend Alicia called back so she came and got my keys and will check in on Odin shortly. I am sooo nervous. I am almost 100% sure Odin had nothing to do with it. I feel sooooo irresponsible. I have been so diligent about Odin that I wasn't about Vito. To top it off, Odin killed my iPhone charger this morning, he dug it out from under my pillow and chomped it, less than 12 hours after his sister did the same thing to her moms headphones....lol

Anyway, good vibes for the string to turn up intact somewhere naturally. I gave him some coconut oil to grease the wheel, but Im still terrified. I keep thinking of poor Cleo and her vet bill.

Thanks for listening
xoxo

Oh no, don't beat yourself up about it, it is hard to be diligent at all times and honest mistakes happen. I hope it passes normally.

Once Dippy got into his toy box while I was at work and ate half a cat charmer. I spoke to the vet but he ended up throwing it up himself, and it was in little pieces as he had chewed it up. Maybe Vito chewed up the string? that would make it easier to pass.

BTW, are you sure he ate it and didn't just carry it off somewhere to play with it? I guess if it tasted like pork he might have thought it was food.

Anyway I'm glad you found someone to watch over him and I have my fingers crossed it all turns out OK.

These sphynx sure keep us on our toes! ;)

Calm down, take a deep breath, I am sure he will be ok. Good vibes sent your way. Our dogs and cats eat everything imaginable, from crickets to full interior walls plus the trim work...we would have to quit our jobs full time to watch them all.

A pick me up video…

Oh no.I'm so sorry. I will keep fingers crossed that you either find the string in some out of the way hiding place or that he hacks it up. Let us know. It's so hard to keep up with every single thing.

Positive thoughts are sent that he is fine and you can relax hearing he is just fine throughout the day. Even if he ate a string it does not mean he will have issues. I had a friend who's cat ate her bikini top strings and she never knew it until she was freaked seeing it in the litterbox. Meat strings are also usually cotton so they breakdown easily and are not dyed or processed with unnatural chemicals.

Mostly you need to know you are a wonderful Mom. Many never would never have even noticed a string was missing.

Prayers and hugs are sent,

Patti

Oh Megs!
Don't beat yourself up! Like Patti said, most meat strings are cotton and easy to break down. I was absolutely convinced Tish ate one of Lily's hair ribbons, I searched the house high and low, but couldn't come up with it.
It turns out, Tish dragged it in between the day bed and the trundle, and I didn't find it until the next time we pulled the trundle bed out!
All that time I thought Tish had eaten it, and it turned up in a strange place I would never even think to look! I guess I didn't realize Tish could fit in such a tiny spot! Theres seriously like 3 inches between the bottom of the daybed and the top of the trundle when the trundle is being stored!
Hugs to Vito, and I am praying that he's going to be perfectly fine. Perhaps a little doggy slobbered but fine nonetheless!

I've got my fingers crossed that the string turns up somewhere. I know that it's hard not to worry, but chances are that even if he did eat it, there will be no complications from it. How long do you have to wait until you know for sure that he's fine?

will keep all paws over here crossed for Your Vito that he did not eat the string , and if he did , that it comes out next poo . If he is plugged up, you will know right away, he will start throwing up and not eat . Thats how Hairy started.

Well I went and picked him up from Elys and he had pooped but there was no string. I tried to go to sleep but between Odin being Odin and Vito wanting the run of the whole house I didn't get to sleep until almost 10. Just getting out of bed now to get ready for work. No further poops. Vito is still eating like a pig, not that I let him have much.

I have no sitter for tonight so I hope my boss will let me came home and check on him. Alicia could come check but she will be there around 9 and that still leaves 9 hours till I get home.

He seems normal but I'm still very worried. I'm not sure that his tummy feels right.

He is drinking tons. The two of them go through maybe 3 plus cups a day!

3 cups of water sounds about normal for what my two go through! C'mon Mr Vito, if you ate the string, please poop it out! You've got a nervous mama and a bunch of nervous lair-Aunties anxiously awaiting you to poop out the string!

I agree with Elvirasmum the water sounds about right. You are still adjusting to the extra little dude Odin and one more means much more water. We fill our fountain every morning and some times have to at night because it gets so loud. Glad to hear so far so good. I just really have a feeling everything will be fine :)

Keeping your boy in my thoughts, don't feel too bad. Merlin pucked up a big rubber band and I have no idea where he got it from. I gleaned the house today but we are not perfect. Hope everything comes out alright.

Meg I'm sending you an email. But I'm sure Mr. V. is aokay. When Cleo ate her yarn, she was vomiting EVERYTHING she ate within a few hours. She was hungry, but every time she ate, it all came right back up. So if Mr. V. isn't vomiting or off his food, he's probably ok. And even though it seems strange for our babies, Petromalt would help him pass a string or throw it up easier, if need be.
Hope you get some sleep!
