Most of you know about Finn's IMHA from previous posts. It's a disorder where his immune system destroys his red blood cells. He has been on the steroid prednisolone since January 2nd to keep his red cell volume in the normal range. Well, he had a vet appointment this week to have his blood drawn to check his count. Sometimes the vet does a packed cell volume test right there in addition to sending it out to the lab, but Finn looked so good and since he has been active and eating she decided to just skip the in house quick test. I was floored when she called me the next day and told me that the anemia is back. She was surprised too considering how well he looked and sounded. I am so saddened and disheartened that I can't even put it into words. Now we have to increase the steroid and recheck in two weeks. His red cell count was great at his last check up in September. In fact, he was on such a roll that we didn't have to see the vet since then for a recheck. It was nice to feel like things were kind of normal for the three month span between checkups. I just pray that the anemia isn't becoming resistant to the steroid. I'm going to wrap it up here because I'm starting to cry and I'm at work. Thanks for listening/reading.

I'm so sorry that the news wasn't what you thought it would be. Poor you and poor Finn. Hopefully upping the doses will get him back on track.

These guys are great at tricking us into thinking things are better than they are aren't they.

Hugs to you and prayers that things will improve again.

Aw no! I am so sorry! What a stop in your positive reel  I hope that upping the steroids will fix the problem. I'm glad that Finn was still able to function at 100% sphyxness even if he wasn't feeling it on the inside. He clearly is a fighter and wants to feel as good as possible. I'm really sorry the news wasn't what you were hoping for. I'm thinking of you and Finn. Please give him lots of kisses from me!

I am so sorry for your sad news. All I can say is just try to keep trecking on, doing what the vet suggests and hoping for the best. If it improved once, it can deff improve again

HUGS!

I've been meaning to ask you what town/city you live in? I saw from a previous post that you are from Westchester County too. I'm up north in Yorktown.

Me neither, I went to two different Vets when I first got Hipo and neither of them had ever seen a sphynx. Hipo is famous at our local Vet :LOL:

I get that too. Finn is like a rock star when he shows up to the vet. One of the receptionists in particular really loves him and people in the waiting room are always curious about him. This is our second vet because Finn needed a specialist, so we switched practices to accommodate his needs. His internist treats five other sphynx (all owned by one person) but our old vet never had any sphynx patients before I brought Jezebel to them.

The receptionist at my vet allows Hipo to just run around, and he usually climbs on her shoulders and sits there while she types and answers phones. She is totally into it! :Adore::Kissed:

I'm so sorry! How frustrating it must be to think everything is going well! I hope you and the vet find a solution and get him back in tip top shape! He is so lucky to have such a devoted parent, as are all the other babies here! Keep positive!!
