Lucky! I've always been one of the tallest girls and I hate it! I want to be short more than anything, I'm only 5'6" which isn't terribly tall or anything, but I think being short has a kind of cuteness attached to it; that and it makes you seem "forever young" in a way :Hysterical:

That's funny because I always wanted to be taller, still do but at 33 I've given up on growing more. I hear you though on the cute forever young thing about petite women. I'll be tall and old! Lol

I can't believe some of the nasty comments! Holy moley! I don't mind people asking if he's a cat and not knowing what he is. I also don't mind the he's so ugly he's cute type comments but wow. Some of the people you all know are mean :( I think I would be making some nasty comments of my own in reply.

The worst was "Ew Sara-beara I don't know how you can love it, it's so ugly."
This is a lady I work with, so I couldn't be downright rude.
But in my head I said "Have you seen what you've given birth to?"
And that made me feel loads better.

I can understand it if someone doesn't like them because they really are different but it still hurts to hear nasty comments (though the worst thing I heard was "eww" from a complete stranger on the street). I'm lucky that most of my friends like extreme things and that the only ones who don't like them just don't like cats in general! Or they are nice enough to keep their mouth shut!
They've also been called dogs but that's because they were on a leash and people just don't expect a cat on a leash. What I don't understand is why some people are scared of them, I mean they're just cats...

Just try to educate people by having them meet Starla & most of them will change their minds!

Part of it is just human nature, almost instinctual much like the disgust reaction to anything slimey
-- an animal that is hairless normally means diseased -- in the case of our cats, it is a mutation.

I don't mind someone's first reaction, it's what they do next -- if they can't get over that first reaction, or at least learn that their opinion is not welcome... well it's easy enough to deal with.

I remember the first time I saw a sphynx -- I thought it was a rescue that had recovered from mange -- I asked how they managed to take care of the scarring!

Most people that I've come across love Nipsey!! So I guess I'm lucky. My aunt that lives in a different state said something rude on facebook and said he was ugly. I got a little snarky lol I said "I don't see how he's ugly, humans aren't covered in fur and they aren't ugly" and I went on and on. She was finally nice. I just assume people that make Rude comments are just jealous :)

I snap back at them. Thankfully I have not come across something really offensive. But when I posted my picture on FB I put a warning with it saying that if you had nothing good to say then don't say anything. I got good responses. I am not up for stupid stuff like that. I dont go around telling parent how ugly their kids are.
But, unless you have a good comeback just let it roll off you.

I honestly just think it's it's funny...... People have never seen them before, they don't know what to think.... & if they aren't animal people to begin with, well, good luck getting them to give you a complement! For me, I have had a lady in a pet store say"what is that?.... That's a dog, right?". I just laugh & explain what a Sphynx is... Most people get interested after that, but if not, I don't waist my time being offended by it. :)

When in doubt, resort to "your face". I find that it works in EVERY situation.

"OMG what is that ugly thing?" "You mean your face?"
"That cat is so ugly" "Well your face is ugly and I keep you around"

It works with personal insults, too.

"You're ugly" "Your face is ugly"
"I hate you" "I hate your face"
"I slept with your mom last night" "I slept with your face last night"

In all seriousness, though, I normally say something along the lines of "She's not everyone's cup of tea, but I love her". However, I still recommend you go with "your face".

Ok I have Chinese Crested (hairless) and my sphynx so i hear all kinds of rude things . But if someone keeps going on about how ugly they are I just say i know you do not have any mirrors in your house or you would know what ugly looks like!!!

I always receive lot of rude or negative comments about my precious cats, I really hate when one guy told me on Facebook "omg, that thing must come from the hell! " it hurt me most. I told him, "you came from the hell and hope the fire burnt your butt to ash!" Then deleted the comments so many times.

I've had multiple people say Jade 'creeps them out' and my own mother said "that THING looks like a weasel" Yeah It makes me mad. But what can you do? It's part of the life of having a 'different' and uncommon breed. =/

When I first got Keano over 3 years ago my boyfriend at the time argued with me about it and said I was insane for spending so much on a cat when I could get one for free. He ended up loving my kitten and swears that he will get one of his own one day. My current partner was apprehensive to meet my boy when we started dating 3 years ago. Fast forward to today and he REFUSED to get any other pet and INSISTED that we get another sphynx. Everyone who has spent any amount of time with my cat loves him to death. It does get annoying that people say such uncalled for things when he's my world. I just don't see what they see I guess. I'm getting used to the majority of people making negative comments... but I just tell them that they'll have to meet him.

its hurtful and unnecessary. I post alot of pictures of phoebe on my facebook and get alot of negative feedback. "Wtf is that".. "why did you shave her?"... "she looks like a rat/alien/diseased"..

fortunately there are some people who are interested and ask me questions about the breed and i am more than happy to educate them on my little phoebe.

Funny story,

i had always told my boyfriend I wanted a sphynx, his reply, " omg they are so ugly, so creepy...etc"..
I made him go with me to pick out a kitten and he fell in love. Now he cant stop talking about how amazing she is, and is always ALWAYS the first to stick up for her if someone makes a negative comment about her. =)

I got the "Eeeww how do you pat it?" Seriously? How do you think I pat it?
The rudest comment was ( and I don't mean to offend anyone but I am going to use the words she did) "Does it feel like stroking balls?" My response was "I don't routinely go around doing that so I can't compare." One person said " Oh my God are you going to shw us pictures of that ugly thing again during lunch?" My theory is an animal lover is an animal lover....the rest of the meanies are just that....mean. Once you meet a sphynx, you get it. The meanies just have not had the pleasure. Sure they look different but wow do they have personality!
