Two new kittens came here with a repeat of Giardia. Would like to add a good probiotic to their treatment plan. Would appreciate some brand names and reasons you suggest it, thank you greatly!
We have seen the med used frequently for treating it is called metronidazole (Flagyl). It can be quite stubborn and we some have had to treat twice. Keeping surfaces clean using disinfectants and keeping the litter box tidy helps to not reinfect. When finished treating it is best to get a new litter box. Has your vet suggested any med yet?
@Nair Bare , congrats on your double gotchas. love to see pics , names? did vet prescribe metronidazle?
all paws are family. agree with advice catzzzmeow shared.
side note, my rottie pup was diagnosed with giardia years ago and the metronidazole cleared it up. I have multipet household and used Duravet cleaner I(though not listed specific for giardia got a gallon on chewy for 12 bucks. ask vet about the mix of bleach and water to clean.
I used it to clean everything wearing gloves and even sprayed cat blankets with diluted with it to wash. I even sprayed on carpet. some mention steam cleaning. none my other pets contracted giardia.
definitely chat with vet about the metronidazole treatment for your babies.
my vet recommended nutramaxx probiotic. can open capsule and sprinkle on food. I got on chewy. ask your vet about. there is also an rx version of nutramaxx Forte , discuss with your vet.
was a PCR test done to rule out anything else?
hugs and positive vibe head smooches.
