You are a great Mommy. I am the one on here that always says trust your gut. You will never have regrets and your baby is getting extra care. The PCR test will give your vet the needed info to really diagnose this thing. Let us know...it might have cost $500 today, but the piece of mind is priceless. I know how concerned you are about FIP. Positive thoughts will keep being sent your way.

Thanks Patti, yes I would rather know what I am dealing with. The PCR test was a little more than $200. We did one when he had tummy troubles too to know what we were dealing with and solve it fast. Little did we know what he was dealing with and the test gave us a wealth of info. then. Hindsight is 20/20 they always say but I wish I had gone to the vet sooner. I just assumed it was a minor cold at first since his eyes were just a but watery. Well, nothing I can do now but learn from the experience and know when it counted I got him in to the vet before it got too serious. Thanks for positive words.

Don't go crazy about FIP. To my knowledge runny eyes are not a symptom . You need to worry if your kitten seems to be wasting away...deathly thin everyplace else but then bloated in the belly. Difficulty breathing, lethargy, sleeping all the time, excessive purring, that I can think of off the top of my head...and how do you know the titer was positive for the corona virus? Did someone suggest you test that? Gosh, I hope not...practically every cat has been exposed to the corona virus, so it is basically a waste of money in my opinion to run the test. A positive titer DOES NOT mean your cat is in any kind of imminent danger of getting FIP....or that it EVER will. The runny eyes are more likely something more simple...an allergy, a URI, herpes? None of which are fatal. Please keep us posted....
Much love,
Susi

Oh thanks Susi for easing my mind a little. He had a PCR stool test done when we first got him due to extreme diarreah. He tested positive for coronavirus, had giardia, and cryptosporidium. We treated the two parasites with two separate antibiotics one after the other. Testing positive for coronavirus was indicated to us by the vet to be a concern, especially in a young cat with the runs but what reading I have done has indicated what you have said, that it may never mutate into FIP and that there is no way to tell. Many cats can apparently be positive for coronavirus and the owners never know about it. I guess it is always in the back of my mind though. When he was super sick with diaherreah I worried more as the vet said he should be getting better with antibiotics but now that he finished antibiotics and is eating a raw diet he seems fine in that regard. I have the results of the PCR testing so I can see all that they tested for and what came back positive. I guess we will get similar paperwork for the PCR testing of his eye and nasal secretions so we will be sure to know exactly what is causing his conjunctivitis. I hope it is something simple.

Thankyou for keeping us posted, ive been thinking about you & Ollie alot & im glad you went with your gut instinct its worth every penny for piece of mind, hopefully his antis & drops will ease his discomfort a bit....fingers crossed for friday, please let us know his results...lots of love sent to you both, Lisa & Blue xxx
Thanks Lisa and Blue,
I think the pain meds have made him comfortable, he is racing around like crazy. I didn't realize that he has been a little quieter the last few days until he started his mischievous tirade tonight. I think the drops will help too, just administered the next dose.

Oliver's mommy-Also a Lisa :)

Vet called yesterday. Said Oliver has mycoplasma felis...!? Seems to be a bacterium type infection causing conjunctivitis. He has no other URI symptoms. He has been having eye drops 3 x a day, I think it is called Tobrex. They must give him some relief because he doesn't mind getting them. He also has an eye lubricant we use in between the drops, we only manage 2 x a day. The vet also gave him a shot of Metacam for pain relief and sent some home to use for 3 days. We did 2 days but today Oliver had soft stools (poop tail ugh) and so I looked up side effects of the pain reliever and it was SCARY! Super scary so I'm debating giving him his last dose today. He does not seem uncomfortable and I'm not sure why she prescribed such a strong pain reliever with a warning against usage in cats. With all the fuss with Oliver, and returning my kids to university we forgot up take frozen food out of the freezer for today. We had a bag of the same raw food he eats but in freeze dried form that he ate today, not sure if that caused his runs. He has been playing like crazy and being an evil little sphynx:sneaky:so I think he is on the mend, just don't want him to slide back to those dark diaherrah days! Back to vet next Thursday to be re- checked. Thanks all for nice thoughts!

When we were having issues here, our vet had thought a possible mycoplasma issue. He said they are on the rise, especially in catteries. Normal antibiotics just don't seem to work well. Just glad vet diagnosed and Ollie should be well on his way :) thanks for updating...can't wait to hear this is all behind him.

Thanks Patti,
I'm hoping for more answers next week with regards to whether eye drops are effective in eradicating it from his system, or whether it is simply a localized infection. I'm not clear on that. There seems to be different mycoplasma type infections. I'm not an expert but am surprised at her recommendation of pain relief with a drug that holds a warning in use with cats. Perhaps she is the expert and I should go with it, I just worry and question I guess.
I'm surprised how loving Oliver is considering that he hadn't had much 'healthy' time in his short life ! He is full of wild energy today, a little on the evil side! I'm guessing that is a good sign. I hope it's all behind him soon too. Thanks for your advice and sharing your experience/ knowledge.

Crazy is right! One minute he is purring, looking at me with great adoration, then he is trying to chew my hand like it is a chicken wing. We haven't had a meal in peace, he has stuck his nose in every but of food I have had, he has jumped on every counter, tried to eat his way through a treat bag, knocked over the tortia chips so he could get one, flicked litter everywhere, played with every toy he owns. Knocked over every laundry basket, tried to get all my potpourri off the shelf, begged for food alllll day long, tried to jump in every cupboard I opened. Haha he is nuts!!

Oh my! It's my night off but I'm awake cause Archie kept coming in and screaming his fool head off and nipping me, running on my head and just being a general pain in the butt.

So glad Ollie is feeling better!! That is fantastic news!

And I really do think there was a universal crazy shift last night cause Zoa was attempting to eat my arms through my blankets, as well as the blankets themselves. Glad I'm not the only one :p
