Wrong sex

About a month ago, I put a deposit down on a female Sphynx kitten. The breeder has been fantastic about sending me pics and updates over the last several months. Yesterday I got a phone call from them saying that they sexes her wrong. She is in fact a he. They apologized and offered to give my deposit back, if I wanted a girl instead. (There are no girls in this litter.) Of course I said no, I'm already attached! Anyway, I didn't think anything of this because I know kittens can be hard to sex, and he is just now 4 wks old. However I had a few friends comment on how weird it was that they sexed the kittens wrong. Is this something I should worry about?

No I wouldn't worry about it. Same thing happened to my sister. She got a male instead of a female and loves him to pieces. Kittens are pretty hard to tell the sex of. Unlike a dog all their bits are in the same general area.

@SphynxMomma78 For new breeders it can be hard to determine the sex of kittens especially in kittens under 6-8 weeks old. There can also be issues of the scrotum not fully falling. So no, I would not worry. Here is a list of things that I would say helps to determine if a breeder is reputable and send up red flags. Not knowing the correct sex is not one of them :) What to expect from a responsible sphynx breeder

Seems like in my blood family no one can have a girl.
I have a Nephew and his wife are expecting in June
and it's a boy. My Brother has boys, my Sister has a boy.
My oldest Nephew has a 5 yr old boy.
I have no kids, by choice. Maybe I would have a girl. LOL

One of my mom cats had to have a c-section after three babies were born and she continued labor but no more babies. I was told by the vet staff that last two that were born by c-section were both boys. I never even thought to double check and about 5 weeks later noticed when I picked one of them up that she was a girl!! I've teased my vet about it ever since!

Speaking of responsible breeders, it's pretty shocking how attitudes to HCM differ by country.
I was talking about a kitten with a breeder who takes HCM very seriously (she has a little girl available atm, but it's 900km away) and she said it's very bad in Germany, not many scan for HCM at all, and have a bit of a cavalier attitude toward it.
Considering how well known (in Sphynx circles) this issue is, I'm a bit 0.o, really. Especially since everything here has about 50 layers of red tape.
They worry about Nakeds not having whiskers (one lady was ordered, by court, to castrate her cat) -- but apparently possibly spreading HCM is no problem at all...

She - He....is adorable and so beautiful. As others said it difficult to see the sexe when a kitten is so young. So I shouldn't worry about the breeder. The breeder phoned you and with offer to give you your desposit back the breeder sounds reputable to me.

He is a cutie. Hope you have many years together. Yes, it is hard to sex kittens under 3 weeks old for me so we used to just used hair ties and they were called that color until we got a handle on if they were a Mr. Or a Ms.
