Zino's Op is tomorrow!

Zino has lumps on his lips and neck (not cancerous ) and the OP is tomorow. No Ketamine, no Heart Murmur, 13 years old with the vet who knows the breed and Zino well.

Just keep your fingers crossed for a smooth procedure!

@kellyannallen , hugs n positive vibes for sweet Zino's surgery. all paws are are family. glad you have a vet that knows the breed and knows Zino well.
as if they call you during surgery for updates? mine does for peace of mind.

Thank You everyone for all the support!

Zino is home, the lumps are gone, they ended up being hard filled glands not even real cysts.

He had five removed, he was not the most cooperative patient to get the needles etc for the operation according to the Vet tech. I personally don't blame him for not wanting to be sticked and poked either.

My wife picked him up, I was working and couldn't do that, and he was wobbly/still half under the sedation when she brought him home. He wasn't really steady on his feet but his first thing he did was go use his litter box, then he wanted water and food.

He is getting steadier, but he's definitely not interested in being overly active. He's resting in his baskets and then going and getting something to eat and drink (wet food, water) and telling us in a loud grumpy voice that today was NOT his cup of tea and was it really necessary.

Friday he goes to get a penicillin shot and next week the stitches come out.

He looks a little like either he lost a fight and needed the stitches or Frankenkitty, but we are just glad he's home with us and no more big lumps an his face and neck.

no cone of shame or bandages needed.

Again thank you to everyone for all the purrs, hugs and head smooches!

Zino is doing okay, the stitches and areas of removal are fine, no swelling, no infection, he's eating like a hobbit who hasn't eaten in half a day. Using the litter box like he should and his meow is not so scratchy he sounded quite miffed for a couple of days.

He is however a little more subdued, sort of tired than normal. The energy isn't quite there.

But the one thing that isn't better right now is his left hind leg. He's still wobbly, limpy on that leg. He's walking stable on the rest.

He went back Thursday to our Vet. We gave him Wednesday to see improvement but for us it was NOT enough. So we moved up the Friday appointment to get Zino checked.

1) He got his penicillin and the stitches come out next week
2) He was given a B12 injection to help with energy levels
3) No infection and Zino isn't scratching at the removal sites.

BUT

4) Zino was NOT cooperative in trying to set the line for the anethesia. And the best vein or place to put it was in the left hind leg, close to the foot. What might have happened is that there are of course a lot of nerves in the area, and in setting the IV line, one was affected.

- he is putting weight on the foot
- he acts like I would (I think) when my foot falls asleep and I have pins and needles
- he rights the foot when the vet turns his paw so it has the top of the foot on the table, he doesn't leave it knuckled under
- he will when you massage the foot, pull away, reacting to touch
- Ultrasound of the left leg from the foot up to and including the hip show free blood flow, with no visible problems.

Our Vet, who we have had for all of our cats and Poodle, and we trust. Says this is not permanent. We have a salve to rub into the foot and leg to help recovery.

Zino is jumping from the floor to the couch, up and down from our bed and also onto our table. He just isn't always a graceful landing, we don't have carpets because of our dust allergies so the floor can be slippery. I actually moved my footstool so he didn't have to jump to get on the sofa, he could hop and walk up (sort of a mini ramp), but NOPE Zino won't use it.

Keep going Zino…great that you moved the appointment up…and even greater the news no infection. Thank you for keeping us updated…positive vibes continue to be sent his way.

@kellyannallen , hi Kelly , awh, continued hugs n positive vibes warrior team Zino. glad u got clear ultrasound results on his leg. what salve are you using?
yup, I know from experience setting up a stool for my bengal many many moons ago , he had a knee patella luxation, and nope he would not use it insisting on jumping too. glad your vet believes no permanent. I imagine with him being a little fiesty putting the IV line in maybe a pulled muscle soft tissue needs a little more time to heal?

did vet think a heating pad on low would be helpful? my ole man Batman, nearing 16 yrs old with some arthritis loves his heated blanket my mom gave me.

HI Yoda Mom

The salve is Tensolvent 50,000 IU Gel. It smells like Vicks Vapor rub actually and Zino lets me rub it all up and down the leg (as instructed) and on the foot in between the toes. He does NOT lick at it I think because it stinks which is good.

We have blankets all over our house, which he snuggles into and yesterday in our office he has a basket which he suns himself in and he did that most of the afternoon. We don't have heated blankets, and he's used to a warm water bottle in the winter, but he's happy wrapping himself up in his balnkets.

Will keep everyone updated. Stitches come out on Thursday and I will be asking questions and talking with my vet then
