YES YES YES YES YES THIS IS WHAT I MEAN!!! Your right people would resist, but then buyers would have a choice to only get cats that are registered to this organization...

The problem here though would be the buyers that would happily go to an unregistered breeder, just because they are cheaper. I don't know what the solution to that is though. Normally I'd say education, but it's about supply and demand, if people are going to back yard breeders for cheap, unregistered, unscanned kittens, the backyard breeders will keep churning them out.

I'm not talking about 'hobby' breeders or genuine cat lovers that breed, I'm talking about the breeders who have cats in cages and are chasing the almighty $$$ while cutting corners with health/ food/ care etc. They don't scan etc because it costs them money and the people that buy from them don't care because they see a cute, cheap kitten and don't think of the future..

Oh, I think stricter standards would be nice, but I think the only way they could be enforced is if the Sphynx community, as a whole, creates an organization willing to do the legwork on enforcement.

IE- an organization is created that permits ONLY HCM scanning breeders to enroll. Within the dues for the organization, people would need to be researching pedigrees, ensuring information is accurate, ensuring HCM scans are official, etc. One issue with this, however, is that too many people let their petty issues get in the way of taking care of the breed- and I could easily see people refusing to register 'said breeder's' cats because they don't like that person.

Not much we can do about backyard breeders but educate buyers, but there are also plenty of registered breeders that dont care either, all we can do is try to keep some healthy lines so the breed survives and we only show and champion the best looking and healthiest. Otherwise we will no doubt have a breed with an average life of 5 years.

The Devon Rex brought many problems to the sphynx breed but it is still allowed as a outcross in TICA.
CFA does not allow it.
Bombays come from Burmese and Black American Short Hairs.
The blask ASH is not used by most breeders anymore in the Bombay lines.
Bombays can be bred to Bombays or Burmese.

I agree 100%. But I too would pay more to a honest breeder that would follow all
rules and regulations, rather being in it for the $$$$. As the old saying goes
"you get what you pay for"
