Allergic reaction help

Hello guys, I just joined this is my first post and I’m super worried. Horton has been experiencing an allergic reaction (I assume) for the past 3 days. I assumed it was because we were switching over his food to adult this week and the adult has more chicken meal in it… but he has been eating kitten food for most of yesterday & today and it has gotten worse. I noticed that he’s sneezing a lot more/ eyes are watering and itching at his face. I washed all the bed sheets again in non perfume detergent and it’s still on his face. Any idea what this could be??

Could easily be the change in food and more times than not chicken is the culprit. Follow your gut and try another main ingredient. It can take a few days for skin and poop to settle so don’t get discouraged. @HairlessHorton

Thanks so much for replying!! I’m going to get a different food with limited ingredients. Just feel so bad for him:/

Do check with your vet too. If nothing else he could get some medicine to make him more comfortable.

Do you use any human perfumed products? Washing powder, soap on your hands, moisturizers perfumes on yourself?

Nope. That’s what confuses me! I don’t use any perfumes or moisturizers because I’m allergic. I can only use hypoallergenic. Im thinking maybe ear mites…. I don’t know though

@HairlessHorton , welcoming you and adorable Horton to the family. let us know if the food change helps and what you switched to. with any changes I also update my vet . any changes to litter? scented air fresheners, infusers( sharing , can be a big no no for pets as some essential oils toxic)

any sneezing, has he ever had a URI (upper respiratory infection) scratch his head on sisal scratching posts?

No changes in litter or essential oils. I have allergies myself so he’s never really around anything like that! I’ve always used wood chips because clumping litter tends to stick to his feet more. I went back to kitten food and it seems to be getting better…. I tried to go through the ingredients and the biggest difference is the amount of chicken. I might get him looked at soon to see if he has mites in his ears (just to be safe) it’s black/brown and builds up quickly. Thank you so much for your help!!

Shampoo from human hair and hair products, including styling products, hair color, and face makeup especially foundation and human moisturiser has been known to transfer onto the cats when cuddling.

Can you trial not using any of the above?

Yesss I don’t use any to start because I’m allergic to moisturizers/partumes so I use aveeno apple cider vinegar to wash my hair and nothing else!! So def not that. Wish I could figure it out. We went back to kitten food and that seems to help so I believe it was the adult food.

@HairlessHorton , hugs n positive vibes. keep us updated. keep in mind our sphynx get gunky ears as they have no fur inside their ears. some vets may mistaken as mites. I wipe out clean out ears 2x a week. there are some helpful ear cleaning tips/video in the help center.

Rash is going away. No mites. Seems to be the food we are thinking.
