I called last week to schedule Arya’s first heart scan, when I called they told me that the Veterinarian always wanted to listen with a stethoscope first. I scheduled her an appointment for today. Because of the pandemic I was not allowed in the clinic with her. The doctor called me herself, which is rare, usually the technician just goes over everything after, she then proceeded to tell me that she heard a murmur. Her plan is to call in a specialist in echocardiograms to scan Arya on Wednesday. Depending on the results will determine the next steps.

Don’t panic @Msluckylu a murmur can simply be a murmur. Kudos to you for scanning and getting a baseline. Our first Sphynx had a second degree murmur as a kitten and lived to the age of 13. Here is more info on murmur grades ...please keep us updated...stay positive. Grades of a murmur and what they mean

Yes often murmurs are innocent and they certainly don’t equal a definite impending HCM diagnosis. Take a deep breath and wait to see what you are working with.

Thank you, I’m trying to stay positive.

I have one with a low grade murmur, age 7. He had an xray taken and it showed a slightly enlarged chamber of the heart (can't remember which one). Because of that, next he had the proBNP test done. Lo and behold it was normal.

You shouldn't get ahead of where things are. One step at a time. It's only a murmur for now.

Sending pawsitive thoughts your way.

Thank you for the information, I think I will feel less worried when I find out what grade her murmur is.

Not to rain on the parade but the grade is a subjective rating. One vet might hear it and say it's a 2 and another one could say it's a 3. On the other hand, the scan will be objective.
