Arya will be seeing the cardiologist tomorrow. She was originally scheduled for March 2021, they had a cancellation and they called me! So we are making the 2 hour trip to see this doctor. I hope we get some good news. All paws crossed.

Arya has HCM, her cardiologist is starting her on .25 mg of Atenolol daily and is recommending a Echocardiogram every 6 months.

Oh my I’m so sorry. It’s not a giant death sentence but it’s still disappointing to read. Did they say how far along she is? I imagine it’s very early stages if they are only starting on one med. I’d highly suggest you start looking into heart supplements early. I wish I had done so. I can PM a great group to join that is HCM specific.

I know it is scary. Here is some info on murmurs that might be helpful. I know we shut down hearing the diagnosis, and often don’t absorb what it really means. Catching it early is key to hopefully managing through meds.

Grades of a murmur and what they mean

That’s what the cardiologist told me too, that the fact she is so young and we caught it early will help in the long run.

She said her heart rate was in the 280’s and even when she was calm it was still high, she said her heart is swollen but her left ventricle is normal size and that we will monitor it.

I'm sorry to hear of Arya's diagnosis. I am all to familiar with what you are going through as my Agnes was diagnosed with HCM and mild heart failure the same day. I wish I had some advice somewhere but so far I am still learning and taking it one step at a time. We are all here for you and her in love and support in whatever you need.
