All the good vibes and prayers for this stressful time pleased that you were out the other side with good results!

On a side note we’ve had that toy and different attachment versions over the years and just be careful because the parts fall off and underneath the tail of some of them is a sharp nail. So I haven’t invested in them recently but you are right they do like them very much just need to put them away and keep checking them.

I'm glad things went well with your boy! Still, the biggest thing you will need to do is know, watch for, and respond immediately to any symptoms of heart issues.

When my Percy (he was a Cornish Rex) was a very small kitten, I was told that he had an "innocent" murmur. Just before his fourth birthday, he developed a cough. He'd had a cough before due to URI's so I kind of blew it off when my vet said he needed another cardio eval, just in case. Well, she was right..... he had developed dilated cardiomyopathy. Later it morphed into CHF. He probably had no chance anyway -- but those two months when I procrastinated and didn't get him to the cardiologist might possibly have made a difference.

Percy is such a handsome guy, and yes, I watch my baby girl like a hawk!! They can call me overprotective all they want, but I will be that cat mum that will take her in for anything!!!

On Saturday, September 3, Ary started her day as she usually does, breakfast and playing with the other cats, about 20 minutes into her play my son came running to my room to tell me Ary is limping! I ran to where she was thinking she pulled an muscle or something, however, she was unstable and unable to use her left side. I swooped her up and grabbed my daughter and we drove her the emergency vet. I called ahead and let them know we were in route and they said they would take her right in. When I got there a tech ran out and took her straight to the back. Since Ary had been there before, when she burned her hocks on her heated bed, they didn't need much information from me. I did remind them of her HCM and sent them all the records, including her echo from June, and her cardiologists information that I had saved to my phone just in case an emergency occurred. As I waited patiently for the Vet to come out and tell me what was happening they put me in the Kitty Korner and all I can see is all the pictures of happy Sphynxes and I just cried, thinking the worse. When they told me to go to to the room and wait to speak to the Vet all I can think of is my Ary and if she was okay. The Vet came in and before she can say anything I asked her if my baby was alive and if she was going to be okay, the Vet said yes she is okay, and then I just cried!! She said Ary is very sassy and does not want to be here, I was so relieved that her Tortiude was still intact. She said she read the echo and would like to do an ECG, blood work, and Xray, she believed because Ary has tachycardia she may had thrown a clot, she said Ary is no longer limping and is acting completely normal. Her bloodwork showed mildly decreased platelet count, and some clumping noted, her chest X-ray showed heart enlargement with no evidence of CHF, her ECG showed an elevated heart rate. She was started on Plavix because the Vet believes she threw a small blood clot and it resolved on it's own. She wants her to follow up with her Cardiologist ASAP and have her medications adjusted if needed.

Lair Prayers are sent. I am sure you are very stressed out…happy they started Plavix and you can see what they want to do from here. It’s great you have a solid relationship with a cardiologist already and that must be a relief. Start jotting down your questions/concerns now as you will most likely forget them due to stress at her next appointment. If you need extra support, you know I am always here for you.

@Aryasmum ,oh my heart, I can just imagine what it was like waiting in the kitty Korner and waiting for the vet. been there... (( hugs )))n positive vibe head smooches to baby Arya for her cardio appointment. we are here for you.
glad you got Plavix and a flwup with her cardiologist.

IF it was a clot, I wanted to share my Yoda had several saddle thrombosis embolism clot episodes. its soo scary I know.
everytime I got her to the vet ,she was fine again and acted like nothing happened.

My vet gave me a very strict baby aspirin regimen for emergencies for (F.A.T.E ) at home if she started throwing a clot.

for educational purposes and to ask her cardiologist, i will get the info and you can ask the cardiologist about if indicated for Arya in case of an emergency and ask if okay with the use of Plavix to make sure not contraindicated.

it helped my Yoda girl on several occasions.

for my girl, before she threw a clot , I could tell some subtle signs coming on. she would stretch out her back leg and shake it and crouch really low, sometimes a guttural meow. she would also feel cooler to the touch on lower body.

hugs n head smooches for sweet Arya! you are the bestest mum! glad she has her tortitude back. she is a sweetie :)

@Aryasmum , info from the veterinarypractice site you can ask cardiologist about.

Although aspirin was once a mainstay of therapy for feline ATE, it has since been superseded by clopidogrel, which has been demonstrated to be more efficacious at the secondary prevention of ATE (i.e., prevention of recurrence of ATE in cats that have previously experienced an ATE event).20 Aspirin irreversibly inhibits thromboxane A2 on platelets, thus inhibiting platelet aggregation. Because aspirin’s mechanism of action differs from that of clopidogrel, dual therapy with both drugs may be advantageous, although this combination has not been studied. Typical aspirin doses are 20.25 to 81 mg PO per cat q72h. A potential side effect of ATE is gastrointestinal ulceration, which can be minimized by administering aspirin only after the patient has resumed eating.

(*clopidogrel is plavix)

I had to write down questions, bcz when I got to vet I would leave and then remember what I was going to ask.

here for you! hugs n head smooches.

keep us updated often.

I would take her and wrap her in a blanket on the bed . usually within 2-5 minutes she was back up running around like nothing happened.

Thank you for the advice and the Vet did tell me about the saddle thrombosis. I will definitely look for those signs and also share it with my family so they can take action as well just in case I’m out or at work. I truly love my Sphynlair family and truly grateful for all of you!!

@Aryasmum , I would ask her cardiologist what would be an emergency protocol to start at home immediately if she ever has signs of a saddle thrombosis embolism. I wrote down the instructions on a dollar store dry erase board in case I was not home.

fyi : Clopidogrel oral tablet is a prescription drug that's available as the brand-name drug Plavix. It's also available as a generic drug. Generic drugs usually cost less than the brand-name version.

oh big hugs to you! that must have been awful just waiting for something while she was in the back being examined. I am glad that she is on the mend so to speak and that you have an upcoming appointment with the cardiologist.

Arya had her echo done on Thursday, her Vet said she was a very good girl for her cardiologist. The cardiologist found no changes to her left atrium and her heart swelling is still slowly progressing. He did not see any clotting and discontinued her Plavix, her heart rate is still very elevated and could’ve been the cause of her episode. He started her back on the atenolol and we go back in two weeks for a recheck of her heart rate.
