We have been blessed this last 16 months to have the love of Dita. She turned 13 on 08-29 and was so full of energy. Dita came to live with us after being rehomed approximately four times. I know that she finally found comfort and happiness. She made us all so happy. She led a rough life before she came to live with us and passed through many hands.
When she first came to our house she hated her paws touched, let alone nails clipped. She had gotten to the point where she would let me clip her nails while she sat on my lap. I could play around with her toes too
an action she never allowed before.
Friday I took her and Savannah in for a check-up. My daughter was diagnosed with Giardia so I wanted to make sure the kitties didn't have it. Dita had been missing the cat box and she had the runs pretty bad. I found out today the test was negative for parasites and negative for Giardia.
She never lost her appetite and she continued to drink. Saturday she was her normal, happy loving kitty. I was woken up Sunday by the kids telling me something was wrong with Dita. She fell over trying to walk.
As soon as my son handed her to me in the blanket he wrapped her in, I knew. She wasn't moving and cold to the touch. She was still breathing and a little life left in her eyes. I wrapped her up and placed her on my bed on a heating pad. I had all the kids say goodbye before we took her to the emergency vet. Savannah gave Dita one last kiss.
I knew in the car that she was leaving us. We had decided to have them put her down if she was still struggling when we got there.
They wrapped her in a new blanket and put the IV in her arm and handed her back to me. We were in a private room with low lights and couches. Dita decided to let go in my arms at 11:30 am on Sunday morning. I know she knew it was time.
She slept with my four year old every night and would come find him at bed time. He had a little trouble falling asleep last night. We moved the two Shih Tzu's with their crate in to his room to help with the loss.
I am so grateful I was home and able to hold my sweet girl. Our lives were more than blessed to have her with us even for the short time we had her. She left this world a happy girl and that gives me some comfort.
I will always love my "Old Lady" Dita, she will forever be in our hearts.
