Hi all,

So, got my Litter Kwitter kit in the mail Friday so looks like Lilo and I will be joining some of you in the adventure very soon. I have read over the others posts but does anyone have anything to say about getting started?? Or any last words?? LOL.

I think she will do good. She is already curious about the toilet and has been checking it out more and more lately. I think it's going to be a little challenging since we only have one toilet but would be so worth it! I tried the contraption on last night and it seems to fit good (minus a couple of the inside plastic clips). Seems like it's going to be a pain to take on and off all the time but oh well.

Good luck to you both. Go very slow, lots of praise and treats. They all seem to have small problem in the first stages. But advancing has been a challenge for us all. I've back tracked twice and just moved up last night again and already had an accident. Were going to try a couple more days before we go back if needed. Remember to be patient.

Glad to hear you guys will be starting the training soon:BigSmile: We share our toilet with Nudie and couldn't use the clips (too hard to get in and out). We just duct tape the 2 sides for stability and take it down as needed- works great! Like the others have said go slow. When they say 2-4 weeks at a stage I go 4 and so far no accidents. I also purchased the inbetween disks and that really made a difference- I haven't had to backtrack yet:ThumbsUp: Good Luck and keep us posted...

So, when you take the "contraption" off the toilet to do your business, are you just removing the inner discs and sitting on the white plastic part or do you remove the whole thing?

I bought Gio and Nyiah the Litter Kwitter for Christmas. I have been scared to start the process since we just moved into a new home. However, our old house had only one bathroom. Our new home has 3 toilets. I think Gio can do this but I am nervous about Nyiah as she is not very steady on her feet. She's already jumped into the toilet a couple times. Well, after the inlaws come visit this weekend I will start on this scary litter kwitter adventure. I'll try to keep you all posted. If you have any suggestions to really make this work I am all ears. :)

I would get the in between disks for multiple cats that way Nyiah can take it slow:BigSmile:

Morticia is a litter kwitter graduate.
The secret is to give lots of treats and stay on each stadge at least 2 to 3 weeks.
If there's an accident move her next to it and say a firm "No". When she does at the litter kwitter give her a treat reward :)
They'll soon learn to go to always to the toilet with the ocasional accident

Good luck!

We have seriously considered toilet training our new babies but I have to admit I feel a little overwhelmed by the idea!! :Dizzy: What age do you usually start the process for best success and does this mean you don't use a litter box at all?

I'm going to watch this tread (and look for others) to see how the potty training goes. Good luck to those in process and anyone who has had good success with a particular method of training feel free to share! I see there are several on the market you can use. Litter Kwitter seems to be popular I see (but have read negative reviews as well).

Thanks for all you guys that share info! It's great to have a place to come for stuff like this

I was worried if I could do this at first, but now I realize it's not so bad. I waited until Nudie was about 5 months and pretty stable on her feet. And yes this means no litterbox while training- that was the scariest part:LOL: I really think that a lot of cats do well with this but there are some cats that will never be toilet cats. Good luck if you decide to try it:ThumbsUp:

Well after some (ok a LOT) of procrastination we have arrived at Litter Kwitter training! I think I waited so long because I dreaded cleaning out the Litter Robot before sending it back. I really loved that thing BUT am so impressed at the idea of having a potty trained cat I just had to go this route. Also, I hate stepping on litter kernels! I have to be able to walk around barefoot in my house without "crunchies"!

Anyways, we started the Kwitter on March 13th, which was at the beginning of my spring break. I figured it would be a good time since I would be able to be home with her. I started in the bedroom where her old litter box was. I know they say start in the bathroom but since I was changing her entire setup I put it where the Litter Robot was for a few days so she could get used to it. It's been in the bathroom for about 4 days now and up on the toilet for the last two. She has always been fascinated with the toilet so she took to it quite well and I have a treat stash in the bathroom so I can reward her after each use, I think that's really important so she knows what a good girl she is!

We literally LOL'ed yesterday when we witnessed the first kitty poo in action...never thought I could get so excited about turds!!! Oh but I was...you know that joy parents say they get where there kid is potty training?? Pretty sure I'm experiencing the same joy with Lilo...she always seems to be pleased because she watched her waste disappear down the toiled and then trots pridefully out of the bathroom.

Anyways, I'm really glad I started. The transition hasn't been as scary as I thought. There is a lot of sweeping but it's ok...it's relatively short-term and will be SOO worth it. I keep a mini broom/dustpan right beside the toilet for convenience. The only thing I don't understand is why there are so many ledged "rings" inside the first red ring?! I get the oval in the middle as I think this is supposed to start the training to aim in the middle but I don't get all the other "rings".

Well, I will update as we venture on in this journey but so far so good .

Good luck! Morticia is fully trained she doesn't need litter anymore, and you'll see what a relieve it is :ThumbsUp:

You have to reward when she does good and say a firm "no" when they make a mistake.

Be PATIENT !!! and don't give up even if she meows constantly , she's just testing you to put the litter box again

I'm such a dork! I PM'd bean to see how progress was coming with LK because I read on another post that Lilo was being toilet trained... and then I read this post with a whole update!

So I think Frank is right about at the same stage as Lilo. He's on red and it's been on the toilet for a few days. When I brought Frank home - he's a 3 yr old rescue so he's already used to a litter box - but I didn't buy a litter box. I started him right away in the bathroom with the LK. I had to switch the litter 3 times before I found one he would use. He likes World's Best. Although he has no issues balancing on the toilet seat and sitting on it while he watches me get ready for work we had to be more gradual about raising up the LK to the toilet. So there was about a week of raising it up on phone books. Now it's on the toilet and he's doing great. He was holding or constipated for a few days and decided it was best to use the bathtub -- twice. But I did 2 things. I scooped his poop out of the tub and set it into the LK and cleaned out the tub. He actually went and tried covering it up once it was in the LK. I caught him another time jumping into the tub and was able to tell him no and fill the tub up with water. For the next couple of days I would keep the tub filled with water as often as I could (it leaked into the drain after awhile). But since then he's been defecating back on the LK the past 3 times without issue.

I've read a lot of people say that they will sit with their cat for hours in the bathroom. I've tried sitting with Frank and putting him on the LK 20 times in a row and he'll jump right back off. He'll go when he's ready and I've learned his tell-tell signs. One of his 'signs' is by playing. I will get out Da Bird and it helps to stimulate him to go after jumping and running around. I'll notice that he can't concentrate on playing and kind of wanders into the bathroom or just acts too distracted. I will just keep playing with him until he all but gives up on the toy and then I can make sure he uses the LK from that point on.

Also, Frank doesn't seem to care to be supervised as he goes potty. He actually likes to go at night when I'm in bed. Since I'm a light sleeper I will wake up when I hear him scratching around in the litter. I usually wait until he's gone and he's already scratching cover up his business and I will get up at all times of the night to praise him and clean out the LK. That works best for us instead of sitting bored in the bathroom together for hours waiting for him to make a move.

So anyway, that's our story so far on the LK. I'm actually pretty stressed about the Amber stage.

I wouldn't stress over moving to the next stage...just wait until your boy is ready and give him extra time with the first step if he needs. You can always go back to the previous step if you accidentally move to fast.

I was a little nervous and stressed about doing it at first but it's really not that scary of a process. I just keep thinking of the end result and that keeps me going. So far, Lilo hasn't had any accidents. There was a small "hershey kiss" on the floor but I think it was a dangler and not her fault :Woo:.

Just wondering if anyone else has any updates? I like to hear about the other kitties progress.

Frank actually has made progress! Friday night I started him on the amber stage. woo hoo!! I was seriously so excited! It's weird to be excited over your cats potty habits but I just can't help it! I can't wait till we're fully done. He's defecated a couple times and urinated several times. I switched it on him when I knew he had to defecate, and also because I was home to supervise during the weekend. I figured it would be the perfect time instead of waiting for him to need to poop since he can magically hold it for a few days. He had to go so bad he didn't put up a huge fight. The next time he defecated he ran around all night (and kept me up) and part of the day needing to go. He'd jump up there, scratch around and then get back down refusing to go. I stayed at home all day and just watched and waited with him. I had to keep water in the bathtub until he FINALLY went where he was supposed to. He doesn't need to be supervised when he urinates thankfully but he's going to need more encouragement otherwise.

One thing he does need to work on over the next few weeks is positioning. He doesn't put his feet up on the white part of the seat but prefers all 4 to be in the tray. That means he pee's in the tray and not in the hole. I was able to reposition him when he went a couple of times but I feel bad that I'm interrupting him at such a vulnerable moment!
