Hello Everyone
I am hoping someone in the community can help me. My dear boy Ozzie is turning 12. He was diagnosed with HCM about 2 years ago. He is currently taking 5 medications for his heart condition. Ozzie saw his cardiologist last week and she suggestion adding another medication. He is in Stage C considered moderate to severe and now is developing a small blood clot.
Oz is currently taking Clopidogrel, Atenolol, Furosemide, Benazepril and Pimobedan. It was suggested adding a daily injection of Enoxaparin for blood clotting. Three of the medications he has been taking are for blood clotting. My cat is very sensitive and has to have a sedative to take him to the vet. Being hairless cats, I feel the needle even the thinness used when injecting every day would be quite difficult and highly stressful on a cat. Does anyone have experience with giving daily injections to their Sphynx? This is a progressive disease they will never be cured of HCM. Just hoping to give my precious boy a good quality with the time he has left could be weeks or months. I don't want my cat to be scared of me and associate me with pain and displeasure in the time he could have left.

Hoping other members will have some experience with injections for you. I totally understand not wanting to stress your baby out but yet trying to all you can for them is a balancing act. You might give it a try and see how they handle this new ritual and go from there.

Big Hugs to you!

While I do not give daily injections, I do give bi-weekly injections for allergies for my girl. It isn't as bad as one would think. The vet's can show you how to give them appropriately with saline solution. They do get used to it. The thing is you have to make it not a big deal for them. I started by giving her the most favorite treats when I had to give them, now she just sits there with no problem. She is not a problem at the vet though so I am not sure if that helps.

I understand the dilemma your facing. My girl also has HCM. It is the worst disease. She was diagnosed a little over a year ago at only 5yo. She is also in 5 medications daily. You could try the injections for a bit and see how he tolerates it and then you can decide if you want to continue? Just a thought. At the end of the day you have to decide what is best for you and him. I know you want to keep him as comfortable as possible. If you think that the injections are going to cause more stress then I would say not to do it. Did they mention an alternative to the injections?

Thank you I am thinking the same.

Bless both you mommies right now. I admire the lengths you are going to make your little ones as stress free and as comfortable as possible. I want to be just like you. I salute you and take my hat off to both of you

Thank you for your post and advice. There is no alternative that the cardiologist mentioned to me. But I will reach out to their vet and see what she suggest.
I wish the best for your little girl with her allergies and HCM. She is so young and sounds like such a sweet heart.
All the best.

No experience here with daily injections, but we have had to do subcutaneous fluids for a number of days and the needle wasn't an issue as I was expecting. I like the advice you've received here, to go ahead and try it if you are willing. Nothing says you can't stop if it just isn't working out for your loved one. Best to you both.

Thank you both for the kind words. It is the worst diagnosis and we do the best we can
