Well i always wanted a dog, i have always had a dog in my life and after moving to the Netherlands with my dutchboyfriend i felt alone with no family and friends, 5 years on (this month 5 years eek) I still felt that lonely feeling and really wanted a dog - with everyone moaning and saying i work too much and wont have time to take him out 3-4 times a day, i got rather fed up.
After watching animal planet i was watching cats 101, the sphynx appeared on my television and was in awe and these cute, doglike naked cats!
A few months later after pining over wanting a dog someone asked why dont i get a cat? i know alot of people with cats who are not so very loving and i wanted alot of cuddles! My memory drifted back to a sphynx so i went online to look at an advertising website like an ebay but dutch and i saw the price and thought "oh dear "
I then saw a photo of my Mau and fell instantly in love, i gave my boyfriend some hints and i showed him a youtube clip of cats 101 The sphynx and he laughed and i showed him more and he too fell in love and i emailed the breeder and well you know the rest ;)
2 weeks later i added Caru to my list and they shower me with love and affection all the time :D
My boyfriend also gives them snuggles and kisses so we are both happy with our choice
Maybe in a few years i will add a dog to the gang - who knows

OK, here's my story: My sister said she wanted a sphynx--I thought they were ugly, but we tried to find one for her--but they were so exxpensive and she wouldn't pay that kind of money for a cat. Well, she was in the Air Force Reserves and was deployed overseas for 90 days and asked me to cover for her at her job, since it was the summer and it was where I used to work--so I knew the ropes. I said I would and she had left a Cat Fancy magazine near her desk and there was an article about sphynx--I was bored, so I read it....and became intrigued at their description, so for the fun of it, I started looking around for a breeder anywhere close to me. I found a lady that was selling my beautiful Moody for a good price because he wasn't registered. I thought he was the ugliest thing I'd ever seen, but I wanted one by that time, so I went to Ohio to pick him up. I thought if I didn't like him, I could give him to my sister. Well, I went to the woman's house and I had to go to the bathroom something fierce, so I asked her if I could use her restroom--she said yes, so I went in and sat down on the toilet--the door swun open, a beautiful tuxedo male came running in, jumped up onto my naked lap, started purring and kissed me right on the lips. It was Moody's daddy....and there began my instant love affair with this breed. I brought Moody home and he was a naughty little brat about clawing his carrier and crying all the way home--but the minute he got out of the carrier he was an angel.....and remains my heart cat to this day. well, I felt bad that I had one and mys sister didn't, so I researched some more and found a woman in Kentucky who had a male and female for sale--I could get the pair for a really good price, so I bought Habibi and her brother Fishbones and brought them home---Fishbones for my sister as a gift, and Habibi for a playmate/mate for Moody. I planned to have a litter or two and then stop, but I found I loved having the babies. I decided to get a registered pair and become a "real" cattery. So I gave myself a name, registered my cattery with TICA and the rest is history. I have never regretted getting these precious babies and I can't imagine my life without them. I have since given my sister two other boys who still live with her and I get to see anytime I want. So I am surrounnded by these lovely creatures.
That's my story....LOL...first there was one...and then there were 9.

You fell in love with sphynx sitting on the throne?:LOL::LOL: Susi you never cease to amaze me.

Ok my turn. It all started when I took my brother to PetSmart. You see he already had a cat and needed to get her some cat food and since he didn't have a car of his own at that time I took him. Well PetSmart has cats from our local Humane Society. He went in and looked at the cats and decided he wanted to get his current cat a friend. We walked away without any cats that day.

Pretty soon it became a regular occurrence for me to go to PetSmart and check the cats for my brother. He told me what he was looking for, another girl just like the one he had already had. Well one day I walked in and said hi to the lady who toke care of the cats (I had gotten to know her real well) and did my usual rounds, carefully checking out each cat. Then I stopped, here in front of me was this beautiful beautiful marbled bengal mix cat.

I asked the lady to unlock the door for me and she said "she may not want anyone to touch her she was just spayed earlier today". I offered her my hand and she shrinked away, you could tell she was in pain. After about half of an hour of gently trying to touch her she finally opened up and came to me. I asked if I could hold her and the lady showed me how to so I wouldn't irritate her wound. I put her on my lap and just petted her and she opened up more purring and you could tell she was content.

This cat was different then what my brother wanted but I text him a picture of her anyway and waited a lil bit to hear back from him. I thought oh my gosh if he doesn't get her, I will. Well I had went to the store late and pretty soon it was closing time. I called my brother and he said maybe, he wanted to see her first. I told my husband "she won't be here long we have to hurry with this one".

I brought my bother back the next afternoon and she was gone. I cried silently on the way home. I never knew how much I needed a cat in my life until then. I had really made a connection with this cat and now she had gone off to another family.

After that I started looking into cat breeds and had remembered liking the Sphynx. I looked into Bengals too but decided I wanted a sphynx first. Now not only am I getting my first sphynx this September but I'm getting two and I can't wait.
