Hi guys!
My first post here!
I have Romeo for about 8 months and since I got him we've noticed a runny poo and diarrhea (and a lot of farts lol). No blood.
We thought it was from the antibiotics from the castration or from his food changes, since the previous owner said his poo was normal.
Since then, we tried many food changes (from grain free to antiallergenic diet food) to see if it helps and nothing really changed. We tried to use meds for giardiasis and others infections, without any response either.

We took him to a specialist and the vet said it could be an alimentary intolerance or IBD, since his US yielded a thickening of a portion of the gut. She said that some of his lypnhnodes on the neck and paw are a little bigger than normal. She introduced an antiallergic food portion (Royal Canin - since we live in Brazil) and started a cycle of steroids for a while.
We haven't seen any changes, even after more than a moth of steroids (Budesonide).

I am a little worried about this whole situation because it's my first cat and nothing seems to work. Haven't returned to the vet yet, but she warned us that maybe if the meds aren't working it may be require a biopsy of the gut.

Romeo is fine, he eats well and haven't loose his weight.

Anyone has gone through anything similar or could help me with tips for this issue?

Thanks xx

Welcome to Sphynxlair your Romeo is gorgeous. There have been some members dealing with IBD so hopefully they will chime in. Speaking to your vet about limited ingredient foods might help…also a tablespoon of pure pumpkin not pumpkin filling helps harden up poop for many so you might give it a try @joaopedroferro

@joaopedroferro , welcoming you and adorable Romeo to the family. several of us have IBD kitties. I truly understand what you are going through. members will surely chimie in. the top right search box for "IBD" or irritable bowel syndrome" should pull up previous threads.
I know with mine it took about 12 weeks on a new food to see results. I ended up switching to nutrisource cat and kitten food years ago. I personally have not given steroids.

have you tried a single source novel protein?

have you tried feeding him what the breeder fed ?
which RC food is he on now? I know some members have used the RC .

I have used a half teaspoon of pure canned pumpkin shared above ( make sure 100 % and no spices in ingredients) toby would only eat it if I warmed it a few seconds in the microwave. my others would not touch it.

I will look for previous threads to tag you in. sometimes they can be sensitive to a chicken ingredient.

some have added a probiotic powder like fortiflora
not sure it the steroids could be causing poo issues.? I would discuss with vet long term use side effects of steroids**

Hi, thank you!
Didn’t knew about the pumpkin tip! In Brazil we don’t have canned ones. I will try to cook and smash some to Romeo.
Thank you ❤️

Hi Romeo, I live in US and I'm a mom of two Sphynx boys that are 11 months old. One of my boys just got diagnosed with IBD as well. It's gonna be a hard battle. He didn't get his full energy back yet which makes me super sad and concerned still, but he definitely got out of diarrhea by doing this. I started feeding these three to him and he stopped this diarrhea - Hill's Science GI Cat wet food + FortiFlora cat probiotic supplement that is powder type + Pro Pectalin Gel every day. Hope it helps a bit.
